Romantic Encounter (1864) by Mihály von Zichy (Hungarian artist, lived 1827-1906). Lucifer and Princess Tamara, a mortal with whom he falls in love. #satan#devil
The Crystal Ball (1902) by John William Waterhouse (English artist, lived 1849-1917). The painting has been restored to show the skull that a previous owner had covered up. #Edwardian#PreRaphaelite
Pauline in the Yellow Dress (1944) by Herbert James Gunn (Scottish artist, lived 1893–1964). The artist's wife - he painted her many times. The ‘Mona Lisa of 1944’.
A Favour (1898) by Edmund Blair Leighton (English artist, lived 1852–1922). A Regency era scene painted in the late Victorian period. The only error seems to be the high'ish heels - which surely should be flat (?). 🤔
Alice in Wonderland (c. 1879) by George Dunlop Leslie (English artist, lived 1835–1921). Brighton & Hove Art Galleries. The bond between mother and daughter, innocence, the shortness of life - and the value of a shared story. #books#reading
@longvictorian4@emjanerothwell I like to think if my Scottish Grandmother had lived this would have been our bonding. Apparently she loved to read as l have always loved to. l just feel both of us would have shared our magical imaginations which only we could understand.💃🦋🌲🌱🌳🌷🌿🍀🍁
