A HUMBLE AND SINCERE APOLOGY FROM THE FAMILY

Dear Sir, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu, CFR,
With the deepest humility and respect, we, the family of Deriko, write to sincerely apologise for the words and actions of our son and brother.
Sir, what happened has brought us great shame and regret as a family. We are not writing to make excuses or justify what was said. What he said was wrong, disrespectful and unacceptable, and we sincerely acknowledge and take responsibility for that.
Sir, please accept our heartfelt apology. We deeply regret that our son, through a moment of poor judgment, spoke about you in a manner that was completely undeserving of the respect you should be accorded.
We have spoken to him, corrected him and made him understand the seriousness of his actions. He has come to realise that a few careless words can have consequences far greater than he ever imagined. This experience has been a painful lesson for him and, we believe, one that he will never forget.
Sir, we humbly appeal to your heart for mercy and forgiveness.
We are not asking you to overlook what happened, nor are we claiming that an apology can erase the offence. We are simply pleading as a family for you to consider his remorse and give him the opportunity to learn from this grave mistake.
He is still young, and we sincerely hope that this unfortunate incident will not define the person he becomes. As his family, we are deeply ashamed of what happened, but we also believe that a genuine mistake, followed by sincere remorse, can become a turning point in a person's life.
Sir, we respectfully appeal to you as a father and an elder: please find it in your heart to forgive him. Whatever mercy you can extend to him will mean more to him and to our family than words can adequately express.
We also extend our sincere apologies to Mrs. Tony Elumelu and the entire Elumelu family for the distress this unfortunate incident may have caused.
We do not take your forgiveness for granted. We simply ask, with genuine humility, that you consider giving our son a second chance to learn, grow and become a better and more responsible young man.
