Rumesh Pathirage 🇱🇰 won the men's Javelin Throw at the Lausanne Diamond League with a throw of 88.14m!
He responded brilliantly to Neeraj Chopra 🇮🇳, who had thrown 88.05m in the second round, while Anderson Peters 🇬🇩 produced his best effort of 86.69m in the final round to finish 3rd.
One of the conversations I’ve had in Sri Lanka that has stayed with me was with a local taxi driver about the Ramayana.
He told me that the version of the story they grew up with is quite different from what we hear in India.
What surprised me wasn’t the difference in the stories, but his attitude towards it.
He said, “We are a growing economy. We don’t have time to fight and debate about which version is right. Our priority is to increase incomes and make the country grow.”
I found that incredibly refreshing.
Different countries, different stories, different beliefs. You don’t always have to prove that your version is the right one.
Sometimes, there are more important things to spend your energy on, like building a better country and improving people’s lives.
That stayed with me.
History for Sri Lanka 🇱🇰🥇👏
