Choose your Niche Early
Young Lawyers, choose your niche very early.
You donβt need to know everything. You need to be known for something.
Positioning early doesnβt limit growth.
It accelerates relevance.
Quietly build. Intentionally position.

@mrfestusogun Due diligence takes time and extra effort, but the result will always be satisfactory... Happy Lawyer = Happy & satisfied client ππ
As a lawyer, having a means of transport (even if it's a tricycle) will improve your life greatly. You can have a matter in Federal High Court Abuja, and still rush down to Magistrate Court, Nyanya, for another matter, while keeping up with your 3pm meeting at NNPC. (Before Solomon Buchi sets up camera to say it's impossible, I have done it before, with Desmond's car).
May God make life easy for every young lawyer and provide that brief that'll make their lives easier ππ

"These people" is a rather condescending manner to refer to Muslims. But since it's done already, so be it. Now, pay attention and learn.
"O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificing on] stone altars [to other than Allah], and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful." -Qur'an 5:90-91.
Moving from the core religious texts to the underlying ethical and social reasoning, below is the rationale behind tagging it "evil."
1. It constitutes unearned wealth. In other words, it is acquisition without effort: In Islam, wealth should ideally be acquired through legitimate work, trade, or effort. This promotes a productive and honest society. Gambling, on the other hand, is wealth transfer, not creation. It merely transfers money from one person to another based on sheer luck. Also, there is no productive effort in gambling. The winner gains wealth without productive work, skill, or providing a beneficial service. The loser loses their wealth without receiving anything of value in return. This is seen as a form of injustice and exploitation.
2. It causes enmity and hatred: Gambling naturally breeds social ills, e.g., (i) the loser's resentment: The person who loses money will inevitably feel resentment, anger, and jealousy toward the winner. (ii) It destroys relationships: It can destroy friendships and family bonds, especially when large sums of money are involved. This fractures community cohesion.
3. It is addictive and leads to financial ruin: Gambling is designed to be addictive. The hope of a 'big win' can lead individuals to chase their losses, often resulting in personal bankruptcy, leading to poverty and debt.
4. It relies on uncertainty: Gambling is the epitome of uncertainty because the outcome is completely unknown. What a person will receive (a large sum or nothing) is entirely uncertain. This excessive risk is seen as inherently unjust and predatory.
In conclusion, the prohibition is a divine safeguard to protect the individual's faith, wealth, and well-being and to maintain a just, productive, and cohesive society.
I'm sure you've seen that the prohibition is a worthy one.
And please allow Muslims to be Muslims.
Thank you.
Seniority at the bar is a rule that should be exemplified and adhered to with kindness and respect by learned colleagues. I have been to court many days when I allow young wigs to handle their cases because they have other urgent things to do and have sought permission, especially when they come from outside jurisdiction. We are lawyers in 2025, and it is high time we jettison the harshness and toxicity we so much detest in some senior colleagues and some "barbaric" practices for the development of law practice in the country.
The idea that every young lawyer must suffer because you did when you were young at the bar is one thing I detest in the actions of some senior colleagues at the bar. How do we grow from here?
