OnceLost Games has given us the most detailed picture yet of what to expect when The Wayward Realms launches into Early Access this June. There is a lot to unpack — See the Details here: https://t.co/1qpNmjRoIZ
The undead are a staple of fantasy RPGs. You’ve seen them a hundred times — skeletons rattling in dungeon corridors, a vampire lord lurking in the final chamber, zombies shambling through graveyards as ambient atmosphere. Most games treat them as set dressing or combat filler. The Wayward Realms is treating them like a system. - Excerpt from The Undead of The Wayward Realms https://t.co/HTE6Ns6HCc
@OnceLostGames Who'll be the first to claim Anatork's sword as their own in the TWR ALPHA? Will it be you as a mighty warrior? Or perhaps me as a clever mage? or someone else as a sneak thief? The Race for the Sword begins! ... or will in a couple of months
The Wayward Realms is meant to take the design philosophy of Daggerfall – An enormous game world, a character creator that allows for hugely varied and unique characters, and a progression system that feels natural (just to name a few) – and update and expand on that philosophy in a modern way – hence the spiritual successor to Daggerfall moniker. https://t.co/zM8nffveCe
@LostLoreScholar Most games don't do this... and the ones that do seem to have all settled on doing this at similar levels - Basic and shallow. But The Wayward Realms is going to be an exception! Can hardly wait to explore how the Simulated society of the Archipelago brings the World to life
what separates a game world that feels alive from one that just feels large? Is it NPC routines? Varied Factions? Environmental storytelling? Reactivity to Player choice? Something else entirely? Drop your answer. #RPG#Worldbuilding#GameDesign
That's a good point about factions. I really like the Approach Once Lost Games is Taking with The Wayward Realms Factions... Can't become a faction leader or even High ranking official. Just low level adventurer that does things for them and maybe gets some nice perks for doing so
@amazinggamepro "Make Them earn what they learn" love it. The worst example of this that comes to mind is Skyrim... I have had so much fun with Skyrim but it definitely failed in that regard
Consequences go farther towards making a game world feel alive than maybe anything else. Especially when the World changes significantly as a consequence of your actions. I'm hoping the Wayward Realms may end up doing this better than most RPGs.. it certainly will if Once Lost games can achieve what they are planning
@ulgulanoth I'd say this is about as true as it gets. Morrowind, Baldur's Gate 3, Elden Ring and Pathfinder: Wrath of the RIghteous are all very different games with worlds that feel alive for very different reasons
There is terrible news about the health of Julian LeFay, "Father of The Elder Scrolls" & Technical producer of The Wayward Realms... Further details can be found at the link below... Please share a memory or something apropriate in the comments of the video https://t.co/UtWf4azBwj
To a life Well Lived Julian LeFay!
