The Sharia has clarified the causes of destruction and the causes of salvation

So from the causes of destruction are:

1.Abandoning enjoining the good and forbidding the evil; the Prophet (salallahu alayhi wa salam) said:

“You will surely enjoin the good and you will surely forbid the evil, or Allah will soon send upon you a punishment from Him, then you will supplicate to Him and it will not be responded to for you.”

2. And from the causes of destruction: when corruption becomes widespread and immoralities spread; Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) said: “Shall we be destroyed while among us are the righteous?” He (salallahu alayhi wa salam) said: “Yes, when the corruption becomes widespread.”

And he (salallahu alayhi wa salam) said: “In this Ummah there will be sinking (into the earth), transformation, and being pelted (with stones).” So a man from the Muslims said: “O Messenger of Allah, and when is that?” He said: “When the female singers and musical instruments appear, and alcohol is drunk.”

3. And from the causes of destruction: oppression; for the spread of oppression is from the greatest causes of destruction. Allah (exalted) said:

“And those towns, We destroyed them when they oppressed, and We made for their destruction a fixed time.”

4. And from the causes of destruction: ingratitude for blessings and not thanking for them; Allah (exalted) said:

“And Allah sets forth an example of a town which was secure, at ease, its rizq coming to it abundantly from every place, but it denied the favors of Allah, so Allah made it taste the garment of hunger and fear because of what they used to do.”

As for the causes of salvation, then from them are:

1. from the greatest causes of salvation is the presence of reformers who enjoin the good and forbid the evil; Allah (exalted) said:

“And your Lord would not destroy the towns unjustly while their people are reformers.”

2. And from the causes of salvation: repentance and abundance of seeking forgiveness; Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both) said:

“There were among them two securities: the Prophet of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa salam) and seeking forgiveness; so the Prophet of Allah (salallahu alayhi wa salam) has gone, and seeking forgiveness remains.”

“And Allah would not punish them while you are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they are seeking forgiveness.”

3. Dua, and it is the weapon of the believer, and it is from the strongest of the causes in repelling affliction and harm; it has come from Ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with them both):

“Caution does not benefit against the decree (Qadr), but Allah, Mighty and Majestic, erases by dua whatever He wills from the decree.”

4. And from the causes of salvation and lifting of punishment: realizing Imaan and Taqwa; Allah (exalted) said:

Why should Allâh punish you if you have thanked (Him) and have Imaan in Him. And Allâh is Ever All-Appreciative, All-Knowing.
