Taman Suropati 1934. A manicured young park at the time with only half of the current buildings completed at the time. Watch the entire footage on our Instagram and Facebook accounts. #jakarta#menteng#preservementeng
Nice article about Menteng in Tempo this week but without subscription you cannot read so we question how many will eventually get to read this article. @korantempo

Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat no 15 in 1959 during a visit of Australia’s prime minister Menzies. The house, designed by Johan Blankenberg in 1937 for the Japanese consul-general, was the residence of Indonesia’s foreign minister Subandrio at the time.
Jalan Banyuwangi No. 9 in Menteng. A 1932 house, demolished last week. Another fine example of 1930s architecture disappeared from Jakarta’s cityscape. It once appeared on the cover of a book about living in the Dutch East Indies. #jakarta#menteng
Jalan Teluk Betung in 1947 (black and white) and in colour (1967) taken from Hotel Indonesia with the mountains (Salak and Gede-Pangrango) in the distance. The Cideng canal parallel in between the houses and the hotel has disappeared since. #menteng
Jalan Teuku Umar No. 2 in 1941. Now empty, for sale and in danger. The Leyzers Vis family lived in this house for 30 years. If you know any Leyzers Vis descendants in the Netherlands please let us know. #jakarta#menteng#preservementeng
Jalan Teuku Umar No. 2 in 1923. One of Menteng’s most iconic and certainly oldest remaining residences. Currently for sale and in danger to fall in the hands of parties who have less affinity with cultural heritage. Let’s preserve! #preservementeng
Jalan Teuku Umar 2 is for sale: US$ 20 million. “Commercial, 8 floors 😬”. This original house from 1912 needs to be preserved. It is one of the most characteristic structures in Menteng. DKI Jakarta is up to show it is serious about heritage preservation.
Batavia/Djakarta in 1947. A row of newly built houses in Menteng. Photo by Cas Oorthuys, courtesy Netherlands Photo Museum. Is this Jalan Minangkabau south of the banjir canal or Jalan Teluk Betung opposite of what is now Hotel Indonesia?
Jalan Diponegoro No.42. Some sources say that Pak Abdul Wahid Hasyim (1914-1953) lived here while he was minister (1945-1952), however telephone books and newspapers suggest differently. Does anyone know more? #friendsofmenteng#preservementeng
Sandwiched between Cikini Station and Double Tree by Hilton is the former Queen Wilhelmina Institute for Hygiene and Bacteriology, a 1933 complex still in excellent condition on Jalan Pegangsaan Timur No 15 #preservementeng#jakarta#friendsofmenteng
Jalan Latuharhary in Menteng early 1960s. Most striking sight here is the vintage train bell, or Genta PJL. There are a few examples left elsewhere on Java, however are there any such bells left in Jakarta or along the line to Bogor? #jakarta#preservementeng
Jalan Teuku Umar 11 in Menteng. Classification A which means no changes allowed to exterior and interior. However compared to the 1933 photos it has changed significantly. Question is whether this occurred before or after 1999 when the law was introduced.
Jalan Haji Agus Salim 108. A unique design from the early 1930s. In a deplorable state. Let’s hope this can still be preserved. Watch the full video on our Instagram/Facebook page. #jakarta#friendsofmenteng#menteng#preservementeng
This art deco house on Jl Imam Bonjol 19 does still exist today. The historic picture dates from 1941, when the house was just completed, and is from a rare colour documentary by H. Zindler. Who knows about its current residents? #preservementeng#jakarta
This house on Jl Medan Merdeka Timur 3 was the “Dienst der Oost-Aziatische Zaken” on this 1940 photo. Now it is part of Kostrad. Between 1949 and 1960 it was the “Hoge Commissariaat”, the highest diplomatic representation of the Netherlands in Indonesia.
Architect Han Groenewegen (1888-1980) designed a few majestic Menteng residences. We recently confirmed that a house, similar shape as the Dutch ambassador’s residence on Jl Diponegoro 39 is located on Jl Teuku Umar. #friendsofmenteng#preservementeng
Taman Suropati, Menteng 1971. This lovely Kartini statue was a gift of Japan to honour Indonesian women. It was inaugurated in 1963, however Governor Sutiyoso decided in 2005 it didn’t fit at the site as there is no Jalan Kartini (🙄). It was moved to Monas.
