Diagnosed with #ADHD in my mid-40s. Felt like my whole life finally made sense. 50 now and a lot still doesn’t fit. My teen mentioned #autism and I thought no way. Created this account to safely explore it and I realize I knew nothing about autism. Scared and excited. And lost.
@KevinABWhite We had the symptoms, but not the symptoms people expected in ADHD. I’m glad you’re finding what you need to better understand yourself. I think it will be a lifelong learning process for me, but it’s been made a lot easier having a place where I can connect with others like me.

@ADHDJobs@lpmarie920 “What’s in it for me?” If you can answer that question, there is a much better chance of your changes being accepted. They may not actually ask that question, but it’s almost always what they really want to know.
@adhd_ffs Item 11: Remove eight items from list. Then, once the eight are gone, you’re left with three, including item 11 which can become your first official item to cross off.
@ADHDdesigner While I wanted instant results, I found the gradual increase to be very helpful. I was able to see how I reacted at each stage, including seeing when the dose was too high, so we could find the sweet spot. I’m now on 27mg first thing in the morning, and 18mg at noon.
@adhd_ffs That is irrelevant. (Allergies and stomach issues) The important part is that your husband must make pancakes in order to restore balance in the universe. 😂
@andi_907 I did the same thing, though it was at the library. I could spends hours bouncing from one book to another, just like an internet rabbit hole. I saw knowledge as something exciting to seek out. Having 24/7 access makes it easier to take for granted.
@andi_907 In school I was taught to use a card catalogue, and Encyclopedia Brittanica was my Wikipedia. The librarian was there to help me find things. Who provides those same lessons when the library and textbooks are replaced by a home computer?
@andi_907 Very big divide. Being tech savvy means different things to different people. My colleagues see “kids” as computer literate so assume the co-op students will know excel, word, and PowerPoint. My kid can program/build a world in Minecraft but can’t use =sum() in a spreadsheet.
@andi_907 I was effectively using the internet before I ever heard of social media. My teen gets “news” via social media and looks no further. Add’l side effect: they forget they’re not getting the whole story because there is bias in following only people who think as you do.
@adhd_ffs I am unable to eat pancakes. But if I could eat pancakes, someone making pancakes on a Saturday morning would be the coolest thing. And the fact that I cannot eat pancakes makes it so much more important that others not waste their chance to enjoy pancakes.
@likesevenspoon@AutismBookClub Half my sentences start with “completely unrelated” but it should be “completely unrelated to the naked eye but totally connected by a chain of seventeen thoughts that brought me to this point…”
@lysdexamforked When I first saw the image, I misunderstood what it was and thought “This is WAY better than having to click on boring taxis or traffic lights to confirm I’m human!”
@meganbrandby Any chance it’s for Technoblade? My 18yo was crying in my room around midnight after seeing the news. We cried together too. Sometimes, that’s the best thing you can do.
