@Martyupnorth Starting off by starting our terms is a mistake. Starting the minimum is also a mistake. Senate should be 50% Western. Don't start with weak demands; HOC 50% Western too. No shared jurisdiction and no funding local loophole. Fix with treaties or constitutional amendments.
@IanRunkle I get it. The problem is the alternatives. Email isn't secure by default. Web portals and 3rd party apps feel like everyone's just hacking something together. 33 years and we don't have a universal drop in replacement.
@IanRunkle It seems fun coming up with course ideas.
"Pay them off: How to avoid blowing up your life and business"
"Navigating the court of public opinion in the internet age"
"Crisis communications: because lawyers are expensive"
"Settle early: how you can lose even if you win"
@IanRunkle@CACP_ACCP@npffpn@StamatakisCPA All 3 of their examples suck. LE already has access to enough info, both on a non-emergency and an expedited emergency basis. In my experience, the real problem is front line LE sometimes forgets what to do.
@CACP_ACCP@npffpn@StamatakisCPA Lawful access would absolutely weaken encryption, and would make victims of the entire Canadian public. It would mean that there is 24/7 surveillance of all Canadians via metadata retention.
@IanRunkle@AdamantxYves McDonald's is a good example. McDonald's Corp bought the rights to the name from the McDonalds brothers, therefore they couldn't sell hamburgers as McDonald's anymore.
@davepl1968 How'd he put anyone at risk? Are you saying the vaccines didn't work?
Either they worked and he put no one at risk, or they didn't work and big pharma and health departments lied, and lied big. Who cares about his small lie?
@IanRunkle Why did no Prime Minister do this? Drive a tank and fly a fighter jet at least once, if nothing else. Bare minimum.
Best we can get is a self righteous speech and a tax hike or 20.
@davepl1968 Thoughts? The patent system is a completely broken dumpster fire, at least as it applies to software and algorithms.
There's projects that go to the ends of the earth to avoid patent infringement, only to have an NPE to start issuing licenses for anyways.
