Honoured to have received this award, and that so many took the time to write a nomination! Teaching is probably the most satisfying part of the job, hopefully this inspires others to get out there and share what they know!
Congratulations to DPhil Lot Koopmans (@lotofrocks), who was honoured in the 2024 MPLS Teaching Awards! Lot received 22 nominations from staff and students, all of which were endorsed by the Department.

Our last presentation for the morning session is from @lotofrocks, who studies LCT pegmatites, which supply the majority of the world's lithium and caesium. Lot's research examines how these rocks form and where they can be found!
If you’re interested in using ML/AI in environmental science, Oxford just established a new taking centre to fund 20 PhD students a year for the next five years. Get in touch if you want to discuss something related to tectonics/petrology/critical metals 💪
Hi all - I am doing a thing in a couple of weeks - talking about our work on tin and lithium granites from a crustal evolution perspective - free to register online or come in person!
New paper out in @GSAPublications ! We explored the feasibility of partial melting during metamorphism as a mechanism to form economic #Lithium deposits (turns out, it may be possible, but it’s not as simple we thought!)
