@ryan_wain@andyburnham There’s a big difference between pointless ‘stuff’ like this, and tangible action like cutting fuel duty and vat.
That’s the sort of ‘stuff’ people expect from government.
Here's the reality of UK's energy supply in 2025. Forget the hype from the green grifters...look at the actual data
Solar and wind (circled in red) provided about 6% of our total energy
Oil and gas and coal (in green) about 79%. That's 12 times as much.
And given that this profile isn't going to change much anytime soon, is restricting access to locally sourced North Sea oil and gas really such a great idea?
We haven't had neoliberalism for decades. Instead we have a system where central banks suppress risk, governments rescue failure and taxpayers absorb losses.
Gains are privatised; risks are socailised.
This isn't capitalism; it's the opposite.

@andyburnham The Climate Change Act and Net Zero have reduced output, increased costs and therefore bills, but successive governments chose virtue signalling and wanton destruction of our energy infrastructure over energy security. @KemiBadenoch has seen the light but then she’s an engineer.
@andyburnham It was not privatisation that produced higher prices. It was Labour governments (later followed by Conservatives) that distorted the energy market.
Your explanation is false.
“We agreed to… maximise global refinery production.”
After hubris comes nemesis.
Three of the five main-fuels refineries Britain has lost since 2009 have closed while Ed Miliband was Energy Secretary!!!
The other two closed under Ed Davey.
Perhaps we should have spent a little more time since 2022 maximising recovery of British resources and domestic refinery production, rather than systematically destroying what remained of it and claiming it would make a difference because the prices are set globally!
You know the EU is already something of a mid-tech backwater when it comes up with something even worse than Microsoft Teams. In a way, it’s quite the achievement.
'The idea that it's done a lot of harm is just not true.'
The numbers prove that Brexit's damage to our economy was 'much smaller than expected', @David_Goodhart argues.

Counter terror police arrested a 27-year-old man today in London in relation to the RAF Fairford investigation.
The UK-Iranian dual national was arrested on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts.
Another man, a UK national aged 26, has also been questioned under caution.
