Lack of atmosphere and vocal support isn't a City thing, it's a football thing. Klopp digging out @LiverpoolFC fans just like Pep. Many fans are occasional visitors and think nothing of paying hundreds of pounds for tickets and spending in the club shop. There is a disconnect.

You get contrived crap like fans from @CPFC @CelticFC @Bundesliga_EN, where the levels of self-awareness are so off the charts, they don't even watch the actual game, they only care about how it looks on the telly.

The top clubs chased the money and, as such, get the type of fans they get. They want it both ways, pushing out generational supporters and then having the temerity to demand atmospheres of yesteryear.

To be clear, I am so glad to have experienced football with City through the 80s and 90s and the best atmospheres will continue to look after themselves, whether it manifests itself in adversity or a title match-up.

However, those romanticised notions of when grounds could be bear pits, also came with a large dose of aggression, sub-standard facilities, disgusting policing and some fans pissing where they stand. Chuck in racism, anti-Semitic chanting, coins and the odd lighter...

We aren't going back, thankfully, society has changed and so has football. It is a middle class sport, repackaged from a working class background. The gentrification of it in the media and the straight jackets imposed upon it inside grounds, should better inform intelligent men like Pep and Klopp.

I liken it to an Americanisation of the Sport? Where only the deepest pockets afford entry.
