A Korean skincare company redesigned its packaging to mimic its product ingredients, such as cucumber, carrot, and even bamboo.
The result?
A significant increase in sales. π
Ever heard of skin hunger (aka touch starvation)?
It's that deep, aching craving for non-sexual human touch β hugs, hand-holding, a pat on the back β when we go too long without it.
Our skin is our largest organ + gentle touch releases oxytocin (the "cuddle hormone"), lowers stress, boosts immunity, and even helps regulate heart rate & mood.
Without enough positive physical contact, people can feel increased anxiety, depression, loneliness, higher cortisol, sleep issues, and weakened immune response.
It's a real physiological need, like hunger for food β wired into us from birth. Especially common in times of isolation, remote work, or if you're living alone. You're not "needy" β humans literally need touch to thrive. π
Have you felt it? How do you cope? (Pets, weighted blankets, self-massage, asking for hugs when safe?)
