To the world today, Nelson Mandela is a hero exalted as a legend. But to the people of South Africa, he was Madiba, a leader who fought for justice even when the tides of the present were turned swiftly against it. To honor Madiba’s legacy is to fight injustice before history rewrites itself.
It really breaks my heart that I have broken news on most of the murdered players here like Shadi Abu-Araj.
I should’ve reported on their games instead.
Thank you so much, Glasgow ❤️🇵🇸
This is a really grim decision alongside Cenk.
People often talk about dangerous road we'd go down under a Reform government - this is another clear warning we're down there already.
A Labour government doing everything possible to silence criticism of the Israeli Government.
Banning Cenk Uyghur and Hasan Piker from entering the UK is an absurd and cowardly decision from an increasingly authoritarian government.
Let us call this what it is: an attack on the freedom to criticise Israel, as well as the UK government’s own complicity in genocide.
+ 🐨 I still believe in the power of lyrics. at least for BTS, I hope we continue to be a group that tells stories through our music. that’s the side of BTS I want to protect and keep alive.
It is with great sadness that I have to report that Ahmed Hariri, a beloved journalist, paramedic and friend was killed today while carrying out his humanitarian duty attempting to rescue the injured from an Israeli airstrike. He was killed in a barbaric triple-tap attack in Deir Qanoun.
Ahmed was a a gentle soul, and natural helper and brilliant photographer who poignantly documented the lives and deaths of his fellow paramedics.
Ahmed was loved and his memory will be a blessing to all of us who knew him.
In this carousel of photos you’ll see the last text message to the local journalist group chat reporting to us the news from Deir Qanoun before he himself became the news.
Israel systematically target and kills medical professionals and journalists. These are acts of genocide.
feels like there’s this problem across mediums where a lot of online people feel like their morality is directly tied to their media consumption rather than like, the things they actually do
Melissa Barrera says the people who "accused me of being antisemitic" still "deny that what’s going on [in Gaza] is a genocide. So, we’re never going to see eye to eye on that... And they’re wrong. Just factually wrong."
"The specifics of my situation were like a perfect storm. I’m a woman of color in this industry. I’m 'on the rise,' but I don’t have a big enough name to be untouchable, so they can make an example out of me. I am well-known enough that you can write articles and create all the clickbait propaganda that you need, but also not big enough that people are going to care enough or revolt or do anything in the industry for me. I was the perfect scapegoat."
