Ndị Igbo, we need to be honest with ourselves: the political damage caused by Peter Obi and the most toxic elements of his support base will not disappear when the election season ends.

Today, the target is the Middle Belt because some of their influencers are no longer shouting “Messiah” at the same volume. Tomorrow, it could be another group that refuses to worship the same political figure.

The most disturbing part is the constant guilt-tripping: disagree with Obi, and you are accused of hating Igbo people. Move on from him, and you are called a traitor. Support another candidate, and suddenly you must defend your identity.

This is not political strategy; it is political self-sabotage.

People are watching how some of us behave online. Political disagreements are being turned into ethnic battles, insults are replacing persuasion, and legitimate criticism is being treated as betrayal.

And the consequences will not end with Peter Obi. They could follow ordinary Igbos into future elections, alliances and political negotiations.

Even those Igbo politicians in APC who think they are insulated from this today should pay attention. Politics has a long memory.

We need to separate Igbo identity from any politician. No candidate is the Messiah, and no politician should be powerful enough to make an entire people inherit the enemies created by his supporters.

If we want political relevance, we need persuasion, alliances, competence and maturity-not perpetual outrage and online warfare.

Ndị Igbo, we must learn to disagree without destroying ourselves politically.
