What is happening with Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir right now should concern everyone.

A recent threat letter reportedly named six Kashmiri Pandit govt employees and circulated their names and phone numbers. Following the threat, security was stepped up in areas where Kashmiri Pandit families live, and Kashmiri Pandit employees were asked to stay home and work remotely as a precaution.

And this is not happening in isolation.

Just days ago, two non-local workers were killed by terrorists in Kulgam.

Then there is the Pahalgam terror attack of 2025, where civilians were killed solely on the basis of their religious identity.

So when politicians still try to reduce Kashmir to a purely “political issue,” they are missing the larger reality.

And it should also make us confront the consequences of demographic displacement. When an entire Kashmiri Hindu community is displaced, when people become minorities in places where they once lived, and when fear continues for generations, the consequences do not simply disappear.

Kashmir deserves a future where people are protected not because they belong to a particular community, but because they are citizens of India.

This land has so much to give. It has seen the happiest of happies and the saddest of sads. It has carried knowledge, wisdom, philosophy and traditions so profound that somewhere along the way, we almost disrespected them, forgot them, and came frighteningly close to losing them.

And standing guard over this land are our jawans.

They have stood for hours in conditions most of us cannot imagine. They have endured what we may never fully know. With that fire within them, they have stood at the borders, protecting their kshetra, protecting this land.

No matter what anyone says, today we are able to travel through Kashmir. Today we are able to stand at Lal Chowk and see the Indian Tricolour flying there. And for me, that says it all.

I carry immense respect for our jawans, and utmost devotion and surrender towards my land — Bharat.

I’m so glad, @jsaideepak explains the concept of varna fluidity so succinctly here, in the interview with @BarooahNabaarun.

In his words (I’m paraphrasing), changing varnas was very difficult but possible and only possible once the correct attributes were observed.

He also explains later in the clip that the avarnic people were brought into the Vedic fold after seeing their traits and characters and assigning them a varna.

A combination of nature and nurture mattered when it came to varnas. That you respect the varna of your lineage but also do the duties of the new varna as is your dharma.

Aside from everything I’ve already spoken about for a year - Sai beautifully explains how it all worked practically, and the fluidity of it.

A year ago I did talk about how the aspects of the Dharma, that many trads consider the truth today actually acted as survival mechanisms, that enabled the transfer of knowledge and culture through centuries when existential threat to the Dharma was rampant.

We should be grateful for it.

But now it’s worth asking if the mechanism meant for survival and not for thriving could be actually hindering the re-emergence of the civilization.

Pakistani Punjab is world's topper when it comes to diabetes. Haryana is among the least.

The great Chola dynasty ruled Tamilnadu for over 2000 years. Most Indians are proud of Chola history and heritage.

Shockingly, descendants of great Cholas today get reservation as MBC ("Most Backward Caste").

Descendants of Imperial Cholas, Pichavaram Cholas belong to Vanniyakula Kshatriya community. Vanniyakula Kshatriyas enjoy reservation in Tamilnadu as Most Backward Caste(MBC).

They even moved to court for a 10.5% reservation within OBC reservation for themselves. Which was struck down by the court

Tamilnadu is one of the richest and most industralized states of India. It has been for hundreds of years.

Still, 89% of population is officially classified as "backward" and enjoys OBC/SC/ST reservations in state and central institutions.

How is this even possible? How can 89% population even be backward in such a developed state?

Descendants of great Tamil empires like Pallavas and Cholas enjoy reservation as "Most Backward castes"(MBC).

How is it even fair that wealthy communities that ruled for 1000s of years get preferential treatment by the state but a poor GC from poorest state like Bihar discriminated against ?

But Tamils were never ruled by any "steppe pastoralists". Kings who ruled Tamilnadu were themselves from the reserved so called "Shudra" communities. They dominated everything from trade to agriculture.

The so called "steppe pastoralists" used to sing praises to them for alms.

How should it matter what those "steppe pastoralists" thought? According to somebody else, I am a filthy lowly Kafir who doesn't deserve to exist. So should I demand reservation too?

There are 234 MLAs in Tamilnadu assembly. 39 MPs. Not one of them is a Brahmin.

This is the same state where 95% of the population enjoys reservation. Basically, it is reservations for almost everyone except Brahmins. .

This is not social justice but complete marginalization of a minority community.

GCs of other states must remember: TN model today is India model tomorrow. TN first broke 50% barrier. Others are catching up.

If GCs do not fight against injustice today, this will be your future.

This is not true. This is the same false narrative that Tamilnadu was impoverished and stagnant before Dravidian movement uplifted it.

Racism is reprehensible, and it is encouraging to see swift action. But let’s stop pretending that stray insults by demented individuals are the worst form of racism in this country. What is far more serious is state-backed, institutional discrimination written into law.

Citizens from Arunachal Pradesh can travel, work and live freely anywhere in India. But citizens from others states need an Inner Line Permit(ILP) to even travel to Arunachal. People from Arunachal can buy land freely anywhere in India. But citizens out of Northeast are not allowed to buy an inch of land in Arunachal and most other NE states. People from Arunachal can get a state government job in other Indian states but vice versa is not true.

Arunachal issues its own "permanent resident" card for its "citizens". Indians outside are not eligible for it even if you manage to live there for decades. On one hand, they lecture how people of Arunachal are as Indian or more Indian than others. On the other hand, they issue for themselves separate PR cards excluding others. What matters more? Words or actions?

Despite such protectionism, parts of the Northeast have witnessed violent insurgent movements that have killed civilians from other Indian states. Migrant communities, particularly Bengalis and Biharis, have been victims of such violence. On just one night in Khoirabari in 1998, 500 Bengali Hindus were slaughtered. There is no such equivalent racism NE citizens ever faced in other states. The worst they ever faced were stray racial taunts. That is all.

The contradiction becomes sharper when viewed alongside the broader framework of concessions and protections extended to the region. Most local communities in the Northeast enjoy Scheduled Tribe (ST) status nationwide, and the region receives disproportionately high fiscal transfers and budgetary support. Five times more than average. Even when it comes to taxation, there are differences. Locals of Sikkim and Arunachal are exempt from paying income tax. These concessions and protectionist measures might arguably have made sense in the past when Arunachal was not as developed. But today, Arunchal, Sikkim and Mizoram are doing far better than most other Indian states in terms of Per Capita Income(PCI) and other economic KPIs.

If racism is wrong, which it is, it must be consistently opposed. Condemning individual prejudice while overlooking institutional exclusion undermines the credibility of that stance. A serious national conversation requires acknowledging both interpersonal discrimination and structural asymmetry, without selective outrage.
