In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
I fucking love people who become more themselves with age. Stranger taste. Clearer boundaries. Louder laugh. Less interest in impressing random people. Watching somebody slowly stop auditioning for the world is fucking beautiful.
@mcuban That would require people with the power to buy significant stocks to care about ethics, which they don't, because the game itself is made for people that care primarily about money and profits, and ethics tend to get in the way of profits. You should know this already
The best protection against AI copycats is creating a game that can’t be easily copied, or is in a niche you understand better than others.
More intricate mechanics, deeper gameplay, unique knowledge of your genre, balance that keeps your game fun for much longer.
To draw an example from another industry: when pitching a startup to investors, one of the first questions is if your idea is “defendable”. Meaning whether there’s anything about your idea, implementation, or team that makes it hard to reproduce and buys you time to beat everyone to market.
There are plenty of copycats trying to piggyback off successful games. Luckily, most of them fail still.
@IamShiroKuroh@stuckinattic Incorrect. Not all AI is generative, and the distinction and categorization is important to address the issues different groups of people have with different types of AI, to create useful legislation
@JeandreGerber@kunchevsky Funny. Do you know how to distinguish NPCs from Player Characters? NPCs are the ones whose actions are driven by an AI. Careful you don't end up becoming an NPC yourself
I feel it's important to share this again. The internet is so hostile toward creators nowadays. I've seen people have their work stolen, and no longer feel comfortable sharing their creations. We can do better.
Let's be supportive to the people that make this a better place! 💞
