Multi-sensory Math. Kids learn best when they combine their mind and body, so we walked out the perimeter and area of the floor tiles. #LOVEttMATH #lovettstrong #HISDMath #DoTheMathHISD #HISDMathTeam

Practicing area/perimeter by rolling dice and drawing it out. Compared everyone’s A/P after every round. We flipped the “bean” to see if highest or lowest answer won that round. Kids quickly discovered they could have same area w/diff perimeters & vice versa

Creating their own fractions. I gave them the fraction of a color (ex: make a shape that is 2/5 red) and the students made a shape that matched. Lots of hands on practice with numerators and denominators!

Roll A Round! Students rolled three dice to made a 3 digit number. They wrote down the number, rounded to the nearest 100, and covered the number on the chart. Great practice but the big time learning was when they had to think ahead to create a number that wasn’t already covered

Multi place mats. Kids wrote mult chart, made the fork and spoon show commutative prop, the bread plate shows mult is opposite of division & commutative prop,and the array is where the drink goes. The mult fact they used is their least fav fact. Now they can practice at dinner!
