On the sidelines of the ongoing summit, I held bilateral talks with President Putin . My main proposition to Russia is that they discourage, by policy, the importation of raw materials from Africa and instead work with Africans to add value to their raw materials at source.
In that regard, I have invited Russia to take interest in a number of business opportunities in fields of oil and gas, agriculture, production, the pathogenic economy, industry and space science.
On the military side, Uganda has managed to become an island of peace in our part of the world, due to our cooperation through procurement of equipment from Russia over the years.
I met the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Dr. Vladimir Orlić and his team.
I shared our common history & struggle for freedom and independence. Marshal Tito supported the anti-colonial struggle in Africa and, although a socialist, refused to be part of the Soviet-Sino quarrels of that time.
We appreciated him so much and when he died, a delegation of the Post-Amin Government, of which I was part, came for the funeral.
We should continue with this struggle for progress and an even better future for our citizens.
I thank Dr. Vladimir Orlić for inviting me to the National Assembly.
His Excellency, Uhuru Kenyatta and I co-chaired a meeting of the Congo peace process at Entebbe where we received reports of the stakeholders. I thank him & his secretariat for continuing to facilitate this EAC- led Nairobi peace process.
