Sesame Workshop mourns the passing of Dolly Parton, whose music and kindness inspired Polly Darton, a character featured on Sesame Street throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Dolly Parton was not only a musician, but a philanthropist dedicated to children's literacy. Sesame Workshop is forever grateful for her dedication to children's literacy and education. 💛💚

Dolly Parton never wanted us fighting over whether she was red or blue. She wanted us to ALL be Americans.

And she showed us what she believed in:

- Kids should have books.
- People struggling deserve help.
- Everyone deserves dignity.
- Success means giving something back.
- And kindness doesn't require a party affiliation.

Maybe the best way to honor Dolly to build a country that looks a little more like the one she spent her life trying to create:

Kinder. More generous. Less judgmental. And looking out for one another.

That feels like a pretty damn good direction for tomorrow.
