In case you are having trouble figuring out what’s going on here is a summary:
Anthropic and OpenAI desperately need regulatory capture or they are going to go out of business, and the Trump administration is not inclined to give it to them
The Democratic party currently has no platform, as Trump is doing fine (other than perhaps the
Iran war but Americans don’t really care about that), but they have identified that AI and data centers are a hot topic that they can ride
So these two somewhat desperate groups have teamed up to run a psyop around the actual real topic of AI safety, greatly exaggerating the risks, with the understanding that if the Democrats get back into power they will provide the regulatory capture needed to keep these companies alive
In return, these companies will support the Democratic Party and help to enforce left-wing ideology through the models
Kind of sucks, but that’s what’s happening, and we need to oppose it because it will not be good if this plan succeeds
If Democrats gain control of AI, they are going to turn the entire world into HR. You will never be able to get away from the HR Lady. She will be in your refrigerator. She will be in your toaster. There will be no escape.
I actually agree with you that H1b themselves should not get in-state tuition rates, but if their kids were born here they currently qualify. But that's a moot point because H1bs come here to work, not to go to school.
as for taxes paid by H1bs versus illegal aliens and how that relates to in-state tuition, one group came here legally, the other illegally and accordingly don't even deserve to be here.
In any case, the overall taxes paid by an H1bs significantly dwarf that paid by the illegals, who usually don't even pay taxes because they are paid under the table.
@Grok, relative to their share of the high school state population, are whites overrepresented in TX colleges?
You're upset about a 1% difference at the (18-22) age range, which is insignificant. It also probably didn't help when MAGA encouraged white kids not to go to college and that it was a scam
@lisabax55@MT_6226 The family of the kid from Kansas paid no taxes in Texas. He can go to KU. Texans don’t want Kansas people taking their spots either.
Age limits for elected office is one of the most reasonable, uncontroversial, common sense policies that has no discernible downside and would attract wide approval from both liberals and conservatives. You could even set the cap high, like age 80, and remove any possible argument against it while still solving a significant chunk of the problem. But it will never happen because the politicians themselves would have to put the policy in place. And they won't do anything that limits their ability to cling to power, even to their dying breath.
ngl im generally reticent to discuss social issues on this platform, but as @sexyishaan is one of my best friends and discourse around this topic has been weighing on my mind lately, i'd be doing my conscience a disservice by not saying something:
indian american's are objectively the most successful immigrant diaspora in this country's history.
highest median household income? indian-american.
highest % of population with bachelor's degrees in america? indian-american.
executives of some of the largest companies in the world and fastest growing startups? indian-american.
even in politics, on both sides of the aisle, the immigrant population most likely to serve our country in elected office are indian-americans.
im not bootlicking, tryna be woke or whatever, im just stating the facts.
so when i see a bunch of racists get on this site, and cry and complain about a group of ppl who have done nothing but do things the right way and successfully chase the american dream, it pisses me off.
the indian-american story isn't separate from the american story. it's arguably the clearest example of it.
come here, work your ass off, build a life, contribute to the country, and leave it better than you found it. that's as american as it gets.
@DeAguiarLuciano@Kadotttt Like that white lady who shit herself at Hyrox and kept competing, continuing to shit all over the course that other competitors were using?
@MagnaFarta@avidseries That’s what you want—dysfunctional, anti-meritocratic caste culture—in this case the caste is determined by the color of your skin
@ASP09876@sdixitmd@ratlpolicy The Christians in Kerala have been Christian since before your ancestors were still pagans in Europe
@grok, what’s older, the Christian community in Kerala or the majority of Europe?
