I quite enjoyed my view from my classroom window this week. Looking forward to a little warmer weather this week, but our school doesn’t half suit a sprinkling of snow ❄️
Education secretary Bridget Phillipson has asked that support for maths and science GCSE students should remain in place for exams in 2025, 2026 and 2027

Wow! Simply Wow!
A tough fought house debate final between Chaffey and Croft House. Croft took the win after the judges' score cards were a draw...which meant it went down to points.
Amazing effort from the house teams. You were an absolute credit 👏

The most fantastic English Language Paper 2. So many happy faces walking out of the exam. Saw some goal-scoring style celebrations too. Fantastic. But at the same time, sad that I’m finished teaching our wonderful Year 11s at @PHSNewbury . So proud of everything they’ve done.
@Team_English1 hi all! What platform do people use for homework for KS3? Interested to hear for something to improve vocabulary that is also something creative? Any suggestions I could look at would be appreciated.
@MrsMFteach@Team_English1 I love talking about the ideas around masculinity - comparing how Lady Macbeth and Macbeth talk about what masculinity looks like, and then Macduff’s “but first I must feel it like a man”. Magnificent. Not just for teaching the play, but an important lesson for young men.
Had a great number of students today for a half term revision day at @PHSNewbury . Great commitment and a really good session revising “Jekyll & Hyde”.
@MadiyaSaha@teach_smith @FunkyPedagogy @SPryke2@Team_English1 The number one thing I believe in for these students is the use of the word “alternatively” - encouraging them to take on new perceptions within their answers immediately pushes them to tackle the top bands.
Thoroughly enjoyed attending the @PHSPerfArts production of Bugsy Malone tonight. Excellent work from all involved. Such talent at @PHSNewbury so proud of them all!
@vipereller Simple really. Shows the students a structure for paragraphing, examples of how to build content, analysis and context into the individual answers, then build into comparisons, and then gives them a scaffold to practice their own. Clarity for confidence.
Really proud of this booklet of model answers I’ve gathered together for our year 11s. They’re doing so well with this at the moment - give them everything we can to really push them 💪
Another fantastic Year 10 parents evening at @PHSNewbury . Really exciting group, enthusiastic and engaged in all aspects of the subject. A great evening.
Hi @Team_English1 big question: if you had to pick the most important 15 quotes from An Inspector Calls/Jekyll & Hyde/Romeo & Juliet, what quote would you choose?
