It means so much to Barack and me to open up the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. This is where I grew up, where Barack got his start, and where we raised our girls. So having a place where kids from our community can see themselves, connect with each other, and channel their hope—there’s nothing more powerful than that.
Westside Middle School Computer Club wins National Tech Trophy in Autonomous Vehicle Prototype. These 4 black brilliant students didn't have the advanced computer software for coding like the other 100 schools. They used refurbished parts & borrowed tools.
University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson on player development and helping basketball players get better: "We work on all the mundane things. The monotonous things. And we tell them, 'Don't get bored with getting better.' That's important. A lot of guys look at things and those little things become big things.
"I notice how people get excited about someone's potential. But you know potential is mostly a prediction. That's all it is. A prediction. Potential tells you what someone might become. But without the daily grind and the habits — the habits will tell you what they're becoming every day.
"Once they get those habits and they learn from them and then the daily grind, every day working on those habits, then eventually they will become a habit. If something happens once, it might be an accident. If it happens twice, it could be a coincidence. But if it happens three or more times, it becomes a habit.
"And a Coach's job this time of year is to create winning habits."
Keep posting this so people don’t forget how truly bad this event was.

“To be successful, you don't have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren't - consistent, determined and willing to work for it. No shortcuts."

“A bird sitting on a tree is never afraid of the branch breaking, because its trust is not on the branch but on its own wings. Always believe in yourself.”

Dawn Staley shares the question every recruit should ask and almost none of them do.
"Everybody's good on the good days. It is who you can trust, who you can talk to and communicate with on your worst day."
Then she explained what she tells every recruit:
"We're gonna make you feel good during the recruiting process. You're gonna come here, we're gonna roll out the red carpet, we're gonna give you our best. Everybody's gonna do that."
Every program shows you their best - that's the easy part. But it comes down to trust.
"I want you to think about if it's 2 or 3 years down the line, when you in a slump, or when you lost a parent, or you broke up with a boyfriend, or whatever - Who's gonna get you back on course to be your talented self?"
That's the real question. Not who recruits you the hardest, but who do you trust? And who do you believe will commit to you and your future?
Everyone looks good when things are easy.
The real test is who shows up when things get hard.
