@kirbykrackle That’s awful, I’m so sorry to hear it. It’s always in the back of my mind that my respi could make me a target or more than just a snide comment or stare. Hope your leg feels better soon
@hannahspierMD I heard this kind of psychologising BS when I was dealing with post viral illness 10 years ago, too. Yes, I got better, but no thanks to any of the mind body nonsense thrown my way (which I did try, because I was desperate to get better). My illness ran its course, I was lucky.
@hannahspierMD Are you just rage baiting now? To suggest that ‘loss of belonging’ came from the pandemic ‘ending’, that there is some kind of benefit people with long covid get from refusing to recover or whatever you think is going on. As if LC sufferers don’t get gaslit enough already.
This is for possible Ebola btw. Last time I was at the airport, I didn’t see one other person in an N95. If you can afford to fly you can afford an N95. Very little social cost to masking on a plane too. Just do it! 😷
Even in an Ebola threat, they won’t have a mask for you.
Australia was not established as a nation-building project.
It was established as an extraction platform.
The British did not colonize Australia to build a civilization.
They colonized it to extract l; first convict labor, then wool, then gold, then minerals, then gas.
The political architecture was built around that extraction logic from day one, and it has never been restructured away from it.
You assume the state exists to serve the population, and therefore bad outcomes must mean the state is being run poorly.
Australia is not a sovereign state that happens to have a mining sector.
It is a private sector extraction platform that happens to have citizens.
Every Australian who “owns” a home is servicing a debt instrument that enriches the FIC.
The minerals get dug up by foreign-owned multinationals.
The profits get distributed to global shareholders.
The taxation office is structured; by design, through decades of lobbying, to ensure the extraction proceeds leave the country with minimal sovereign capture.
The politicians are doing exactly what the structure requires of them: absorbing public anger, rotating every few years to reset the pressure valve.
Australia is not mismanaged. Australia is managed perfectly,
just not for Australians.
Breaking: A new review paper of the tipping point risk of the Atlantic ocean circulation known as #AMOC has been published. 🌊
The evidence has broadened over the last years that the present #AMOC is in a multi-stable regime, posing a risk of tipping 😨.

Iran have made it very clear the Strait of Hormuz is only closed to those at war with them and their allies, so there’s a really simple solution to this problem. Not supporting US/Israel’s war won’t be presented as an option, though, and the people suffer the consequences.
new: PM Albanese will give an "address to the nation" tonight at 7pm across TV and radio. It'll be on fuel, and is said to be about encouraging Australians to help save fuel for areas that need it
@DaveMilbo Too white middle class greenie and don’t speak to working class IMO. I still vote for them because they’re more aligned to my politics than anything else on my ballot paper but ultimately they’re still neolib & I think would go the same way as ALP should they get power.
National Press Club platforming Israeli ambassador - knowing IDF killed 250+ journalists - for lunch chat. In the same week Israel admits doctoring Lebanese journalist image after murder. Disgraceful & dystopian yet somehow still shamelessly in full view, to be broadcast on ABC
Acc. to a reporter on the scene in the aftermath of Israeli’s murder of 3 Lebanese journalists, Israel targeted their car with 2 strikes, killing Ali Shuaib & Mohammed Ftouni. Fatima survived & tried to get away, but the Israeli drone struck her a couple of times down the road.
@tryna_do_rite That if it’s not fit tested, that just means the quality of fit is unknown, not that the fit is poor. Also even if an N95 is a bit leaky, it’s still reducing risk, particularly when used as source control.
(Hard not to feel it’s a bad faith argument - so exhausting to combat!)
Disease is a tool of genocide. Cuba is experiencing a health crisis, adding to that by spreading deadly airborne disease is bad. Activists who weren’t thinking about mitigating disease on their trip should simply take the L and do better. Get a mask, put it on, it’s not hard
@katewillett You know you can still go and spend money with a mask on right? This is a paper thin excuse to not do the bare minimum. The benefit of your tourist dollar doesn’t outweigh the harms of potential introduction of infectious disease to a community under heavy sanctions.
“The Communists were determined to eradicate disease. In the 1930s, Mao joined the Chinese Communist Party’s Public Health Commission; in 1934, […] Mao placed public health at the top of the list for party work.”
Not a slight, but rather an appeal for us to continue their work.
The spread of "We have to prevent panic at all costs" as a memetic contagion is remarkable.
We're at the point where we routinely have worse outcomes- including mass deaths, due to a nebulous fear of panic, which is just accepted as the worst possible outcome. "Better people die than be scared".
Greater deaths are a reason to avoid fear, you don't choose greater deaths to avoid fear itself. Not every place is a crowded stadium or movie theater.

What exactly is the "panic" the UK is so afraid of, if they, at a minimum, provisionally advise wearing a respirator at least until complete contract tracing has been done? Crushed in a stampede to Boots?
Or do they mean "people might be less likely to go out shopping and dining"? It sounds like they are afraid of spreading judicious caution that might slightly cost the capital class, not panic.
Albo should be met with this righteous anger everywhere he goes. The absolute gall of this craven man, after all he’s done, to turn up to a mosque for a photo op and then whip out the old ‘terrorist’ accusation. Nothing is ever his fault. Go fuck yourself, Albo.
The “hecklers” literally shouted “get these genocide supporters out of here” and he basically told the press “no, no, they all loved me except for a few terrorists”.
Zionism must be stopped by any means necessary. That it is going to take this, Iran’s resistance, is a reflection of our pathetic complicity in the imperial core. We should have torn shit down from the inside. Now it’s being done for us, and most have no idea what’s coming
So all oil and gas wells, refineries, petrochemical plants, ports, and other critical energy infrastructure across West Asia and the Caucasus, as well as all tankers, will soon be destroyed.
The global economy will soon collapse. All for the Israeli regime. All for Zionism.
