Sure, he took the multi-million dollar payment for his accident then capped damages in future lawsuits. Now with taxpayer-funded staff at his beck and call, he stymies others who have disabilities but no staff. What a damned fine hypocrite.
Advocates say Gov. Greg Abbott’s veto of a bipartisan bill that would have expanded vote-by-mail access for people with disabilities is a major blow for disabled voters in Texas.

The 2017 Trump-GOP Tax Scam was a gift to giant multinationals. It’s led to dozens of large profitable corps paying nothing in tax for years.
After manufacturing a debt ceiling crisis & nearly tanking our economy, Republicans are back for more. Spoke against their Tax Scam 2.0:
Harlan Crow and dark money go way back. And it just so happens that Clarence Thomas and secrecy around political donations go way back in his rulings, too. https://t.co/JmxNucoHlk
Banning good literature is just ridiculous. This young woman is inspiring and thought provoking and accessible to readers of all ages. https://t.co/Y7zyiyR6mc
Okay, this concludes this 🧵 on "more than you probably needed to know about ERCOT," but I hope at least one person found it helpful 😊 You can read more on today's conservation request here: https://t.co/0ouSuePoEx
OH! And one last thing, if your retail electricity provider (NOT ERCOT or CenterPoint, but who you get your bill from, like TXU, Reliant, etc.) asks you to conserve energy, it's so they can save money. It likely has nothing to do with grid stability.
But while ERCOT doesn't offer residents $$ for lowering electricity demand, it does have programs to compensate certain businesses (manufacturers, industrial operators, and yes, cryptocurrency miners) for shutting off power during times of increased demand.
I should note here, too, that the legislature also has not passed any legislation that significantly changes the demand side of things, i.e. energy efficiency or programs that compensate residents for reducing electricity use. (experts say these programs would help immediately)
The Public Utility Commissioners are appointed by the governor. The Public Utility Commission is overseen by the state legislature.
Since the winter freeze Texas lawmakers have passed lots of grid related bills, but none that ~require~ more electricity supply in the state.
That board is selected by a three member panel. The governor, lt. governor, and speaker of the House each appoint one member to that panel.
But overall, ERCOT gets its direction from the 5-member Texas Public Utility Commission.
So let's talk about who THEY is. ERCOT is the grid operator; basically traffic control. ERCOT doesn't own power plants or power lines, but directs where the electricity goes. It also acts as the trading floor for the state's wholesale electricity market. It's run by a board.
The question I get most often is, "didn't THEY learn anything from February 2021?!?" You may remember, that's when millions lost power and hundreds died during unusual freezing temperatures. State leaders have made lots of promises to "fix the grid" since then.
I'm an energy reporter for the @HoustonChron covering ERCOT. I've gotten A LOT of emails/texts/dms about today's conservation request (people are not stoked), so here's some things I've learned about Texas electricity that may be helpful.🧵
During a time when Texas ranks 41st in eighth grade reading test scores, the Republican controlled state legislature banned books instead of funding our schools and supporting educators and families.
Hey @YouTube, it is time to start healing ❤️🩹 the country. Facts are not negotiable. Please ban the lies that are fanning the flames of another insurrection. https://t.co/x8ijFZ5gQ6
The richest 1% accumulated nearly twice as much wealth as the rest of the world put together over the past two years. It's not radical to tax the rich. It's radical to allow this level of extreme wealth concentration to continue.
Hey @USPSHelp@USPS Why is DeJoy still in charge? We are not getting important mail, which we can see we are due to receive via USPS Informed Delivery. Tried to call local post office but no one picked up.
