Today marks 5 months since I joined the Sacred Heart Center team, and I cannot quite put into words how amazing of a journey it has been.

Today I am signing off as the Secretary of Education, my dream job.
What I used to tell my students on the last day of school is that this isn’t goodbye, but rather a celebration of our time together.
This is the same, here are some things I’m celebrating today. 🧵1/6
This month I wrapped up 6 years of board service with the Virginia College Access Network.
I feel thankful that the board is more diverse and engaged now and I am thankful for those that believed in me to serve and lead.
VirginiaCAN will continue to expand college access far all!
I was so sad to learn of President Jimmy Carter’s death today. One of his accomplishments that really resonates with me was his founding of the Department of Education. President Carter understood our shared future depends on access to a good education for all Americans. RIP.
Great things happening at @GoFalconsHHS I’m very thankful for the wonderful team we have at HHS, for our amazing students and their families, and for RTD’s positive press!

Today marks the end of my service on the Virginia Latino Advisory Board.
It’s been the honor of a lifetime to represent the Latino community of VA to two different Governors across the last 4 years & to chair the board for 2 years.
I hope to have served the Commonwealth well!
Our students wrote an Op-Ed, and I am so incredibly proud of them!
“We request that our local media outlets shift their paradigm from directing the public’s attention to our low points to highlighting and relishing our successes.”
RTD Commentary: Tragedy doesn’t define us.
This weekend I completed the National Principals Leadership Academy from the Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents (ALAS).
