On October 7, 2023, the terrorist organization Hamas launched a horrifying attack against Israel.
We stand with Jewish people and Israelis on this painful anniversary. We won’t relent until we see every last hostage returned home safely.
My statement.
Today, Jill and I lit a yahrzeit candle in memory of the 1,200 innocent lives that were stolen in Israel during the unspeakable brutality of the October 7th attacks.
On this solemn anniversary, we honor the indomitable spirit of the Jewish people.
Hamas executes six hostages in cold blood. Who gets blamed? Everyone but Hamas.
The ONLY beneficiary of the endless finger-pointing against ourselves (the right blaming the US government, the left blaming the Israeli government) is Hamas, which knows how to put the free world at war with itself in a never-ending blame game of mutually assured recrimination.
We do the work of our enemies for them.
You will not see hate, violence or call for genocide at the #MarchForIsrael in DC today.
What you will see:
People’s faces— we’re not ashamed because our cause is just.
You will see them cry— we’re grieving.
You will see them sing for peace— we still believe in true justice.
You will see them thanking the authorities— we appreciate their hard work.
You will see them recognizing the pain of innocent Palestinians— we believe in humanity.
You will se them standing in unity— as we come together for peace.
@fearisanacronym@_plantmama@IMN0TALLT00WELL Bestie, NYC is 100% colder in January than Vancouver lol, just rainy but the people will be fine. It's a perfect stop for a West Coast city if she's continuing North America through 2025
@wildIyenchanted This is so unbelievably stupid and hyper-nationalist. It's MORE convenient for most of the US Northeast to drive or fly to Toronto (NY, Philly, Detroit, Boston etc are all 5-9 hour drives) than Indy/NOLA/Miami. People with a lack of geographic education can't gatekeep shows lol
@krkernes@erastourticks@dhamm_12@CarineK@taylorswift13@gracieabrams No it doesn't stop us for doing anything because Toronto is an extremely walkable city, we have public transit, still run around the city in the dead of winter. Also November can go either way, some years I've walked around in a t-shirt no jacket, sometimes parka in snow!
@tswifterastour@taylorswift13 Toronto and Canadian Swifites have been waiting VERY patiently for this announcement! But having the honour of ending the North American Eras Tour with 6 (so far) shows is a pretty cool prize. #TSTheErasTour
Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era 😝 Miami, New Orleans, Indy and Toronto: The Eras Tour is coming to you in 2024 with @gracieabrams! Verified fan registration for all shows is open now - visit https://t.co/xw6YMN3GMc for more information
@aripounaki@Isaac130300165@the_transit_guy I’ve always thought Toronto would be a phenomenal place for the UN or secondary HQ, as big airport hub and city amenities aside, so much world commerce & politics does still operate on EST because of NYC and DC. A further west North American timezone is harder on Asia-Pacific.
@geravitywave @the_transit_guy And for those who don't like cold weather - with global warming, globalization experts are predicting that the Northeastern Great Lakes Area is set to become the best place to live in North America in the next 30 years, so (unfortunately for the planet) we've got that covered.
@geravitywave @the_transit_guy In a couple decades, easily Toronto. Not there yet with public transit + cost of living but the incredible amount of booming industries, access to talent coming from high immigration and unique vantage point of being non-American while very American-adjacent is very advantageous.
@TPSOperations@TorontoHydro@Toronto_Fire I was just driving here and would've loved to have designated police dispatching traffic more efficiently. My 2 options were inconveniently making a U-turn with a dozen cars behind me, or go through FH Collegiate which was a bad pile up of rerouted traffic AND service vehicles...
I just want to make a few things clear:
The Holocaust happened.
Hitler was a demonic figure.
And instead of giving it a platform, our political leaders should be calling out and rejecting antisemitism wherever it hides.
Silence is complicity.
The solution isn’t electric cars. It’s not even autonomous vehicles. It’s walkable cities with mixed-use buildings. Everything else is just a better version of wrong.
@sellam_bensetti@brxtmobile@khloekardashian There’ve been a surge of antisemitic incidents in the US since Kanye West made blasphemous remarks about Jews. This sign in LA yesterday had some celebrities denounce antisemitism. If you’re SO triggered by Jews you’re unable to separate that from the conflict, you’re the problem
@wakeupsleeples@logan_lass@__LoveandLight@khloekardashian I see you’re also from Toronto. According to the Toronto Police Service’s 2021-2022 study on local hate crimes, Jewish people remain the most targeted group of people in the city. If you call yourself a Torontonian interested in “truth” and don’t see the issue, you’re the problem
