The annual Easter Monday parade marks the beginning of the Siege of Derry, when King James II rode to Bishop’s Gate expecting surrender, and was met instead with defiance.
The gates stayed shut. The cry went up: 𝗡𝗢 𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥 - a stand for Protestant faith, for British people, and for country. The city stood firm.
Feeder parades move through the town in the morning, all leading into that moment, a reminder of a British Protestant city that refused to surrender. 🟠🇬🇧🟠🇬🇧🟠🇬🇧🟠🇬🇧
First big one of the year folks.
Hope everyone attending has a great day, one of my favourite parades. I Cannot wait for a good wee dander round the wee toon, the crowds at this parade will definitely be great.

I’ve spent a lot of time recently in Northern Ireland, and the patriotism here is something else.
Watching the bands today of the apprentice boys in Ballymoney was incredibly moving, every beat of the drum carried pride, passion, and a deep sense of loyalty. Loyalty to their culture, their heritage, their history, and to this great land.
You can feel it in the atmosphere, in the people, in the way they stand and represent who they are.
It makes you think… England could learn a lot from the men and women of Ulster.
On this day in 1995, Scottish football lost an icon. Small in stature but a behemoth in presence, David struck fear into the hearts of defenders and is rightly recognised as one of Scotland’s greatest ever players. He was, and still is, loved by many and is sadly missed. ❤️

A wonderful player. A wonderful man and sadly missed friend, a @RangersFC legend was born on this day in 1956 💙
