I thought of something funny. Fair warning, this applies generally more towards Yandere Malfoid, but it still works. Probably also adding some Hedwig traits that aren't there, but it's for fun.

How Hedwig and Malfoid bond. Oh it's easy for her to just adore Hedwig. But Hedwig is used to that. Of course Malfoid adores her. She's a magnificent bird. Top of her breed. It's expected.

Hedwig doesn't understand why Harry keeps having her deliver letters to this girl. She doesn't particularly care for other girls around Harry. They're nuisances most of the time.

But then Malfoid vents, as she writes her reply to give Hedwig. She talks about all the other girls around Harry. How she hates it. Insulting them. Saying many things Hedwig finds intriguing. Oh, no one had such a relatable vicious demeanor before. She liked this one.

Ok, Hedwig decided. This one can be in his life. Especially if she keeps providing the expensive food and treats. Harry could use someone of means and riches in his life. It would let Hedwig experience the luxury she deserved!

And the duo unintentionally bond over a particular subject. Beyond them both being prim, proper, beautiful, and lording themselves above others, they both enjoy being the only girls in Harry's life. But Hedwig could accept this one.

The way I see it, yearning for a Malfoid in one's life has taken a back seat. People grew so fond of the character that has the community fully focused on giving her the redemption and happy ending she deserved. Of all HP characters, She alone always needed saving from the dark.
