How should we understand the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24, Mark 13, Luke 21)? It's a highly debated passage, but one that is worthwhile to look into for truth, insight and spiritual edification. Care to take a tour?

@DeaconStrat Actually I wouldn't call it a rule, since God was not obligated to save anyone. But as the Bible says, he saves his people because he loves them (e.g. Rom. 5:8). God can't overlook sin, so he wipes away sin through substitution so that we can be united with him through faith.
@DeaconStrat The idea isn't a giving up so that there's a permanent loss. Rather it's about God "handing over" or "delivering up" his Son to be a substitutionary sacrifice. The word in the original language carries this sense.
@DeaconStrat God sent his Son to the earth to die for the sins of his people. He took their punishment in their place so that they can be saved and made right with God through faith in him.
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

"O LORD, there is none like you to help, between the mighty and the weak. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let not man prevail against you."

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing.
