We rip these magnificent, dangerous animals out of the wild, cage them for our amusement, and then lose our minds when one of them does exactly what a tiger is supposed to do the moment a human invades the only territory it has left.
A man jumped into the enclosure today. The tiger attacked. The man died. That outcome was not mysterious. It was predictable. Yet the instinct is still to act horrified at the animal, to treat the tiger like some rogue villain that needs to be punished for behaving like a tiger inside the prison we built for it.
The tiger didn’t choose captivity. It didn’t ask for tourists staring at it all day. It didn’t invite anyone into its space. We created the conditions. We took the risk. And when the risk materializes, the animal is the one people want to hold accountable.
Stop calling them zoos or coming up with other names like “wildlife park”. Call them what they are: prisons for animals. And stop pretending the prisoner is the problem when the free human walks in and gets what he came for. 💁🏼
