okay i just watched the clip, yeonjun was dressing the boy and the boy was about to throw a tantrum so yeonjun called him a handsome boy to convince him to wear the clothes and not cry, you guys are so weird for twisting such an innocent interaction
Have you ever seen Koreans attack someone as a pedophile just for saying "I love you, baby"? No. In Korea, even though the literal translation of "baby" refers to an infant, everyone understands the English nuance. We recognize that languages have different cultural contexts.
Koreans respect these differences, so why are you labeling him a pedophile based entirely on your Western cultural lens? He is Korean. Being fluent in English doesn't change the fact that his mindset is shaped by living in Korea. It’s hypocritical to stan Korean idols while refusing to understand Korean culture. If you're going to consume K-pop, the least you can do is educate yourself on the language and culture first.
“he is fluent in english” is such a stupid thing to say😭😭 i’m an english major but if an english word has a different infliction and meaning in my native language then i will be using it accordingly while speaking said native language… ++
I'd like to clarify the word "sexy" in the context of the Korean language/culture.
Yes, when you go to the Korean dictionary and search up the term, you'll get the definition "sexual attraction".
However, the term is commonly used among Koreans outside of its literal definition +
hello, we have seen a clip of YJ going around and we wanted to explain the nuance of the word “sexy”. it’s understandable as to why people feel uncomfortable by it because to many of us, the word “sexy” carries a sexual undertone. however, the word “sexy” in korea carries a significantly less sexual undertone and is rather used as calling someone attractive, handsome and/or cool. we would never defend something that is wholeheartedly weird. we won’t bash those who feel uncomfortable because again, most people aren’t aware that the term carries different undertones.
Recently, an elementary school teacher who vented his anger in front of the Minister of Education was viral at a teacher meeting in Korea The content is as follows
“And even if we are given immunity from liability, I am still not going on field trips. Why? Because we get a ridiculous number of complaints from parents.
The day before a field trip, we get complaints like: ‘Please pair my child up with this specific student because they are close friends.’ or ‘Why are you going so far away for a field trip and making my kid carsick?’
Here’s another one. During a field trip, I took about 200 photos of our lovely students. Do you know what kind of complaints I received that day?
‘Why are there only five photos of my child?’
‘Why does my child look unhappy in the photos?’
These are the kinds of complaints we get.
Can you, the Minister of Education, resolve these issues for us? Will parents really stop filing these kinds of complaints?”
If his words was genuinely pedophilic, he would’ve been canceled and torn to shreds 3 weeks ago I rechecked the clip, and the actual Korean nuance is just along the lines of, ’is so cool!‘ That’s the main point It’s not deep at all

In Korea, the word sexy has a more comprehensive meaning. We use it to see cute or silly animals, to see delicious food(called ‘sexy food’), and when we see smart people(called 뇌섹남,뇌섹녀). It means that the brain is sexy. But no one thinks it has a sexual connotation to animals, food, or the brain. The meaning of words changes little by little in each culture. Please understand our culture.
