🔸 July 2 - Saint Stephen the Great of Moldavia 👑🇷🇴🔸
Today, we also commemorate Saint Stephen, the Great Prince of Moldavia. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest figures in Romanian history. St Stephen valiantly defended his country throughout the 15th century, despite relentless Ottoman invasions. His piety is reflected in the 48 churches and monasteries he founded or restored. At age 19, Stephen’s father, Prince Bogdan II, was murdered by his brother, forcing Stephen to flee with his cousin Vlad the Impaler through the Borgo Pass.
When Vlad gained Wallachia’s throne in 1456, he helped Stephen claim Moldavia’s throne in 1457. Stephen’s reign was marked by wars against the Ottomans and a flourishing of Moldavian culture, in great part through the beautiful monasteries he built. Whenever his land was threatened by war, Stephen sought the counsel of Metropolitan Teoctist I, who had anointed him Prince. While Stephen fought, the Metropolitan called the monks and hermits to keep vigil with fasting and prayer until his return. When Stephen was defeated in battle (as he was at Razboieni in 1476), Metropolitan Teoctist urged him to not despair, but to trust in God.
He counseled the Great Prince to erect a monastery after each battle as an offering of thanksgiving to God, and among these was the great Putna Monastery founded in 1466. Stephen was also generous benefactor of the monasteries of Mt Athos, especially Zographou. St Stephen maintained a close bond with St Daniel the Hesychast, a hermit who dwelt in a cave in Moldavia. After his father’s murder, Stephen spent several days with the saint in prayer and confession, and St Daniel foretold that he would become Prince.
St Daniel urged St Stephen not to surrender to the Turks, promising a decisive victory and instructing him to build a monastery dedicated to St George. This came to pass, and St Stephen built a church dedicated to St George at the famous Voroneț Monastery to commemorate the victory over the Ottomans at Battle of Vaslui. Having defended both Moldavia and the Orthodox faith for nearly half a century after the fall of Constantinople, St Stephen reposed on July 2, 1504.

💥 WHAT A TURNAROUND
💣 Brad Pauls loses EVERY ROUND to Shakiel Thompson but knocks him out in Round 9.
📈 Pauls might've just put himself in prime position for an IBF world title shot.
I see this clip making the rounds and people shitting on Larry Legend again.
Here’s B-Hop 3 years later showering Merchant with praise. People aren’t used to Larry’s style these days, cause he had a set of BALLS.
Put some respect on his name like Bernard did, here. #Boxing
