Report from Harouf, where an entire family was massacred in an Israeli airstrike this morning. The Lebanese ministry of health has updated the death toll since I recorded; so far 21 people have been killed in violent strikes across south Lebanon.

The Boy: His name is Ibrahim (born Alessandro Napoli), a 14-year-old teenager from California.

The Walk: In February 2024, Ibrahim tracked his phone pedometer and walked 35,000 steps (a 3-hour journey spanning roughly 12 miles) from his home in Livermore to the Muslim Community Center - East Bay (MCC East Bay) in Pleasanton, California.

The Reason: Ibrahim did not walk that distance to initially embrace Islam. He actually formally converted and took his Shahada (declaration of faith) a year prior, on March 19, 2023. He explicitly stated in an interview that he chose to walk the 35,000 steps to attend a special Miftaah Institute educational program because he wanted to earn Hasanat (spiritual rewards).
