@adei0s Okay yea definitely learning that what I mean to say is just distinguish the harmful vs neutral effects of parasocialism thanks I was mostly just trying to subtweet about a specific fandom issue I didn’t expect it to get a larger reach but always a good learning opportunity
Quick review
Parasocialism is:
✅pretending you’re in a relationship (and saying you’re pregnant with their child)
✅looking up private information
✅stalking their non-public wherabouts
Parasocialism is NOT:
❌following a tour
❌dressing similar
❌interacting with them online
Going to bed and just sharing this reply in case I end up with a billion notifications saying I’m also using “parasocial” wrong oopsie daisy I didn’t mean to spread misinfo lol was just subtweeting about stupid fandom drama

Also the examples I used of parasocialism are real things that happened because I’m not denying that we have a history of parasocialism in this fandom but calling out fans who are just spending their money how they want in a harmless manner is not a productive conversation at all

@W0RLDDEVASTAT0R One could even argue that claiming to know that a harmless activity makes a celebrity uncomfortable when they made it clear they dgaf/actively encourages is ACTUAL parasocial behavior but I’m not gonna argue that bc I don’t wanna throw that word around
at the end of the day if ur very well
known in a fandom there will always be fans creating new discourse & drama to hide behind their jealousy— especially if nothing ACTUALLY weird/problematic has happened & that's why the term "parasocial" is used, it's their way of projecting
