Sabías que esta obra es la más importante de Marc Chagall y que la hizo completamente gratis?

El monumental techo de la Ópera Garnier de París es una de las obras más célebres y fascinantes del artista de origen franco-ruso Marc Chagall, inaugurada el 23 de septiembre de 1964.

Con una impresionante extensión de 220 metros cuadrados, este lienzo circular abraza la majestuosa lámpara de cristal central de la sala del teatro.

Chagall asumió esta titánica tarea a los 77 años, trabajando durante un año de manera completamente gratuita debido al inmenso amor que profesaba por la música y por la ciudad de París.

La obra funciona como un gran homenaje lírico dividido en secciones cromáticas que celebran a 14 grandes compositores, sus óperas y sus ballets más icónicos:
•El panel central (alrededor de la lámpara): Evoca obras maestras absolutas estructuradas en cuatro colores primordiales.

Dedica el rojo a Carmen de Bizet; el amarillo a La Traviata de Verdi; el azul/verdea Fidelio de Beethoven; y el verde a Orfeo y Eurídice de Gluck.

•Los paneles exteriores (el anillo principal): Se despliegan en amplias zonas de color que entrelazan genios musicales:

◦Azul: Dedicado a Músorgski (Boris Godunov) y a Mozart con las notas mágicas de La flauta mágica.

◦Verde: Dedicado a la melancólica partitura de Tristán e Isolda de Wagner y a Hector Berlioz con Romeo y Julieta.

◦Blanco: Dedicado a la sutileza de Claude Debussy y su pieza Pelléas et Mélisande.

◦Rojo: El espacio reservado a la danza, honrando a Ígor Stravinski (El pájaro de fuego) y Maurice Ravel (Daphnis et Chloé).

◦Amarillo: Dedicado al ballet romántico e histórico con Chaikovski (El lago de los cisnes) y Adolphe Adam (Giselle).

Fiel a su inconfundible estilo surrealista y poético, Chagall flotó en su cielo particular un sinfín de figuras oníricas.

Los espectadores que miran hacia arriba pueden distinguir músicos, ángeles, parejas de amantes, animales fantásticos, instrumentos musicales e incluso monumentos icónicos de la capital francesa como la Torre Eiffel y el Arco del Triunfo.

Entre el mar de colores, el artista también pintó sutilmente su propio autorretrato y el del ministro de cultura que le encomendó la obra.

El lienzo fue un encargo directo de su gran amigo André Malraux, quien era entonces el Ministro de Asuntos Culturales de Francia.

En su momento, la propuesta desató un enorme escándalo político y artístico: la crítica más conservadora consideraba una ofensa que un pintor modernista y extranjero alterara el diseño original neobarroco del arquitecto Charles Garnier.

Para solucionar el dilema y proteger el patrimonio histórico, se utilizó una brillante solución técnica: la obra de Chagall se pintó sobre 24 paneles de poliéster desmontables.

Estos paneles se superpusieron como una pantalla flotante a 21 metros de altura, lo que significa que el techo original de 1872 pintado por Jules-Eugène Lenepveu sigue intacto y perfectamente conservado debajo del cuadro moderno.

Emus (especially during breeding season) strut, fluff those long neck feathers, sway their heads in slow side-to-side motions, and circle each other. Females usually start the show with deep drumming calls that can carry nearly two kilometers, then parade around with their rump angled toward the male. If he likes what he sees, he answers with the head-swaying “dance,” pecks, and sidles in. Get the moves wrong and she can turn aggressive fast.
But the real secret isn’t the dance itself. Once the eggs are laid, the female walks away. The male takes over completely: he sits on the nest for about 56 days, barely eating or drinking, losing up to a third of his body weight. Then he raises the chicks alone for the next 18 months, defending them from dingoes and rival males. In the animal kingdom, that’s an extreme role reversal—and it works.
So when you see emus bouncing, spinning, and putting on a full theatrical performance, you’re watching the opening act of a parenting strategy that puts most of us to shame. Flightless, six-foot-tall, and somehow still more dedicated dads than half the internet.
