I genuinely hate the term “friendslop” for a game because it’s so demeaning to devs that put their time into these games. I’d love to see people try to even attempt to make one and them have the realization it’s not just slop you throw together with zero thought.
We get the sentiment, but if we went back to the “old days,” far fewer indie studios would survive today.
Early Access has become CRUCIAL for many developers. Not because studios want to release unfinished games, but because game development has become exponentially more expensive, competitive, and demanding.
The reality is, some studios hit a point where they need to release in order to continue growing the game. More funding means hiring more developers, improving optimization, creating content faster, and supporting the game long term.
Even with us, we hit moments where we wanted more time, more optimization, and more polish. But eventually you have to make the call to launch, build with the community, and keep pushing forward.
Without Early Access, a lot of ambitious indie games simply wouldn’t exist today.
Saw a few people ask about crowdfunding during the @regimentgg announcement. We don’t have a campaign right now, but Patreon is helping @Riftwalkergame while @Luclinftw builds it.
