Spend billions on AUKUS, keep approving more emissions. What don't Australian governments get about this terrifying scenario? The #ClimateCrisis is real, our leaders culpable. 'The hottest July in 120,000 years. What’s in store for Australia this summer? https://t.co/xiS8RPigXg
Just astounding - an ecosystem collapse event & no emergency response. Look at it! I can’t believe not 1 Minister or responsible MP with levers to engage a logistics response has turned up or is doing a thing! @Dom_Perrottet@AlboMP@James_HGriffin@tanya_plibersek#nswpol
A picture to remember next time we hear about the budget constraints for the transition to renewables, or raising jobseeker, or spending on public education or on health or, aged care or... or... or...
A reminder that this energy crisis is a fossil fuel crisis. While power bills in NSW are skyrocketing, power bills in the ACT (which uses far more renewables) are falling. Renewable energy is the cheapest energy in the country.
Australian governments spend $22,139 on fossil fuels subsidies EVERY MINUTE!
This is moral and economic madness. Australians want #ClimateActionNow
I want a government that puts the safety of Australians first. @ScottMorrisonMP@AlboMP
“I’ve never seen it flood here like this... The neighbours said even the 2011 floods weren’t as bad as this.”
Just months into their new life in Queensland, Laura & Tom are stranded without power, not knowing when the lights will come back on: https://t.co/D7rzQmL8PN

THREAD: For 18 months, the @AusConservation Investigations unit has worked with a group of ANU students to expose serious flaws in Australia’s system for assessing the climate impact of mines and gas fields across the country.
Here are the key findings:

Regional Aussies in fossil fuel industries worry about surviving climate breakdown as much as you do.
We just also worry about surviving transition if lack of planning brings chaotic closures & lay-offs.
It’s not that complicated, politicians. Fund an economic transition plan.
Fossil fuel workers of Central Queensland are begging for a transition plan. A long-term vision.
Instead, both major parties are in town this week confirming they'll do whatever they can to maintain the status quo. No vision. No plan to help us survive a changing global economy.
When this election toys with our future and turns us against each other, just remember the majority in every Australian electorate support more ambitious climate action.
61% of Flynn voters believe the federal government needs to be doing more to address climate change. #RenewCQ
My dad found another orchid we’ve never seen in the bush in Cooma NSW. What a BEARD! Probs spent decades waiting in the soil for this Spring rain. We lose so much when we wipe out Aussie bush—no unexpected gifts come from cement or monocultures. #orchids#monaro
With all the news about Australia's lacklustre engagement and commitments coming out of #COP26, you could be forgiven for thinking we're in a losing battle to save off the worst effects of climate change.
If that's where you're at this story is for you.
