Cancer Cachexia is an irreversible progressive condition.
It the often the underlying reason for hospital admissions, falls, pressure ulcers and many more struggles for people. It falls into the palliative care domain perfectly

Spot on from @Tanni_GT on R4: “every end-of-life discussion will become a decision about whether to die early”. Every old person, every family and every doctor will have to have this conversation. Hence over half of AS patients in Oregon do it cos they feel a burden.

Very wrong of Lord Forsyth to say on R4 just now that there’s no evidence of assisted suicide laws being expanded (the slippery slope) in other countries. In EVERY COUNTRY WHERE A.S. IS LEGAL the scope has been expanded. It’s inevitable - and indeed the wish of campaigners.

@BBCr4today In Canada Assisted dying is now 2.5% of all deaths - an increasing proportion of these requests are not due to unbearable symptoms but rather fear of being a burden, loss of control etc. Not all of these people even have a terminal diagnosis - instead conditions like depression.
