Advice for scholars: next time you lecture on Kant and revolutions at “Downing” (@DarwinCollege) Cambridge, make sure your hair is neatly tied and that you’re not blonde. Or else your research impact will be on the @spectator libido section.

1/3 Exciting developments in Turkey's local elections on women's representations: After five years of dedicated environmental activism in Akbelen forest, Nejla Işık became the political leader of Ikizköy in Mugla.
CHP leader Özgür Özel’s speech hit a bunch of high notes so this might get missed: Just because the opposition can win doesn’t mean elections are free and fair. The media’s still tilted, politicians still jailed, etc. Commentators shouldn’t conflate outcomes with constraints.
Early local election results in Turkey a big disappointment so far for Erdogan and his AK party. Opposition CHP candidates are leading AK by big margins in Istanbul (8%), Ankara (20%), and Izmir (10%), Turkey’s three biggest cities.
On International Women’s Day I remember the women who struggle & resist the brutality of the world we live in. There is no feminism worth taking seriously that is silent when people are killed, dispossessed, assaulted or expelled. Solidarity is for everyone, or it is meaningless.
Devastated to hear of the passing of Benjamin Zephaniah. The sense of recognition and pride I felt as a young Black person when Benjamin joined my department during my PhD studies was immense. Rest in power and peace.
I have two masters degrees from top British unis, including one that won a prestigious award. I’ve lived here for years.
My visa is up in two years and I won’t qualify under these rules.
I feel sick to my stomach right now. After everything I’ve done, it’s still not enough.
Everyone working in or on the Western Balkans should understand that this already forgotten corner is now nobody’s priority. This is good and bad news. Bad, as mayhem is possible. Good, as this is a chance for local actors to ditch their masters and deal with regional survival.
I had the amazing opportunity to talk with @drljshepherd and Soumita Basu and get their invaluable insights into the history and politics of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda.

Do these guys want “skilled” migrants in the UK or not? Because that move is going to make sure less and less people take the path. The visa fees are already unreasonably high.
Also, what kind of government funds its public sector off the backs of migrant workers?
I GOT REFUSED FOR A SWISS VISA TODAY. @SwissEmbassyUK And the reasons, unbelievable. Let me list why:
1-I am officially invited and sponsored by a Swiss higher education institute as a research fellow and all my travel expenses are prepaid by them. ->
