Family and community members in Gary, Indiana are demanding answers after 67-year-old grandfather Kenneth Williams Sr. was shot and killed by police on Friday night while working security at a local transit center.

Police say they were responding to reports of Williams Sr. exhibiting "unusual and erratic behavior." A total of nine officers – six Gary Police and three Lake County Sheriff's deputies – discharged their weapons, and all have been placed on administrative leave.

It comes just three days after power was fully restored to Gary, Lake County’s only majority Black city, following a two-week blackout caused by windstorms on August 11.

No officers were injured in the encounter, and police say an autopsy on Williams Sr.’s body will be completed on Tuesday.

🇭🇹 A 20-year-old Haitian immigrant and recent Springfield, Ohio, high school graduate has died after being struck by a semi on I-70, with members of the local Haitian community describing his death as a suicide following mounting pressure from ICE, WHIO TV reports.

Pierre Damas Bel had recently been ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor after losing Temporary Protected Status, according to community reports. Friends said he felt humiliated and struggled with the monitoring, outlet LSV Media said.

Ohio authorities say Bel exited his car and entered traffic; they have not yet publicly ruled the death a suicide.
