10 December—Queen's magnificent 50th anniversary of "A Day at the Races"! 👑💙
Their very first completely self-produced masterpiece that gave us timeless classics like "Somebody to Love", "Tie Your Mother Down" and "Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy".
Half a century later, this album still shines with pure perfection! ✨💖

"That was a great moment, but the biggest thrill for us was actually creating the music in the first place.
I remember Freddie coming in with loads of bits of paper from his dad's work, like Post-it notes, and pounding on the piano. He played the piano like most people play the drums.
And this song he had was full of gaps where he explained that something operatic would happen here and so on. He'd worked out the harmonies in his head."

"Freddie was music. He was a genius. You think of an idea and he would do something even better. He could always top what he had done himself in various ways.
You would think, Jesus, how could you even come up with that stuff?
He was a brilliant piano player and he actually plays really good guitar, too, even though he claimed he couldn't.”

"When we made the record, then it was 'all we hear is radio caca,' because Roger wrote it.
D'you know what 'caca' is? If you have any French friends, 'caca' means 'shit,' so Roger wrote it because his little boy was saying, 'it's caca, it's caca,' because he'd heard some grown-ups talking, so it was called Radio Caca.
But our record company said, 'you cannot do this! It has to be Radio Ga Ga,' which is the later lyric, so we changed the title but we didn't change the record, so if you go back and listen to Radio Ga Ga, you'll hear 'all we hear is radio Caca.'"

21 October 1974—"Killer Queen" was released as a single in the US! 🇺🇸
"I wrote it in one night. I scribbled the words in the dark one Saturday night, worked all day Sunday and that was it. It gelled."
— Freddie Mercury ✨
"When I first heard Freddie play it on piano, it sounded like a number one to me."
— Roger Taylor 🥁
Freddie: "The dollar signs went up in his (Roger's) eyes!" 🤑😂
It became Queen's first major US hit, reaching #12 on the Billboard Hot 100! 💖

"He had a wonderful touch on the piano, Freddie. Really he didn't think he did, you know?… 🎹
He didn't have the classical range, but he could play what came from him, inside him, like nobody else—with incredible rhythm, incredible passion and feeling." ✨

"You know something? There's been a lot of rumours lately, about a certain band called Queen. The rumours are that we're going to split up, what do you think?
They're talking from here! My apologies, but I say what I want. You can forget those rumours, we're going to stay together until we fucking well die, I'm sure of it!
Also, I suppose we're not bad for four aging Queens, are we, really, what do you think?"
