Hey @MLB : let me see if I get this. You can force players to celebrate "Pride," i.e., a particular sexual ethic that is opposed to the historical position of the entirety of the United States for 240 years, and that is grossly offensive to almost ALL religious groups, and if your players STILL wear the hat but put a Bible verse on it---that's just too much, right?

At the exodus, Israel is Yahweh's son (Exod 4:23). Under the Davidic covenant, sonship concentrates on the king (2 Sam 7).

After David, the fortunes of the corporate son depend on the faithfulness (or lack) of the royal son.

This is the covenantal order by which Jesus the Christ saves His brothers.

For years, I expected my family to leave me alone for a period of “decompression” when I got home from work.

I’ve always worked in highly relational, conversation-based roles. I’d often arrive home overstimulated and disappear into my office.

My wife would want me to address a discipline issue with one of the kids or take interest in how her day went. My kids would want to tell me about their day or hit me with a thousand requests needing dad’s permission.

But I just wanted space.

I was fried.

“Give me a minute, guys.”

Looking back, I see that for what it was: a missed opportunity. A failure of leadership. How a man walks into his home after work says a lot about the culture he’s building.

A man doesn’t just bring home a paycheck.

He brings direction and masculine leadership.

So I changed. I started treating “re-entry” as a moment to lead, and I built three habits to help me do it.

Habit #1: I stopped listening to anything on the drive home. I use the silence to pray, collect my thoughts, and gear up to do more work, the kind that matters most. If you work from home, you might need to take a few minutes alone in your office before stepping out. Habits two and three flow from this one.

They start the moment I walk through the door.

Habit #2: I ask my wife if there are any discipline or pastoral issues that need a father’s touch. There are plenty of situations where a mother needs the father to step in. Handle those.

Once I’ve dealt with the kids, I move to habit three.

Habit #3: I tell my wife something about my day. She’s been with the kids all day with no adult conversation. More than that, she’s my main support in the mission I’m called to. I want her to see what she’s helping make possible by being a helpmate to me. Of course, I ask about her day too, but I’ve found that priming the pump helps get a good back-and-forth going.

I hear a lot of pastors scolding men for not doing dishes or folding laundry.

I rarely do either.

Not because I think I’m too good for it.

It’s just already done.

My wife oversees our home well.

Besides, me fathering my kids and encouraging my wife does ten times more for the health of our home. My household doesn’t need a second mother. It needs a father.

These habits help me get to that work the moment I walk through the door. They’re not rules I slavishly follow. Some days, I do need a moment. Sometimes the drive home just isn’t long enough. This is more about building a culture of action.

There are other ways to do this. Find what works for you. The point is to seize every opportunity to lead your home.

And a word to the wives: reciprocate. Don’t be the sort of wife who immediately dumps all, and only, the day’s difficulties on her husband. Be ready to share the wins too. And metaphorically speaking, give him a moment to put on his house slippers. If he moves toward you, and you move toward him, you’ll create a more peaceful home.

Let this be the attitude of both husband and wife: “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others” (Philippians 2:4). That means the husband sets aside his fatigue to engage. And it means the wife doesn’t greet him with a flood of complaints. He moves toward her, and she moves toward him. That’s how you build peace. That’s how you build a home.

On the night of Passover, the angel of death “passes through” (‘avar) Egypt, striking down the firstborn (Exod 12:12). When Israel worships the calf, Levites pass through ('avar) the camp killing every idolatrous brother, friend, and neighbor (Exod 32:27).

Worship is central to Christian living. Actually, it's central to all human life: "without worship you shrink," wrote the play-wright. "It's as brutal as that." This is a general truth: human flourishing depends on looking up, looking beyond, looking deeper, and responding with gratitude, admiration, and aspiration to the vision one has glimpsed. By itself, however, this wide meaning of "worship" can lead in many different directions, some of them dangerous or even destructive. Humans are designed, after all, to reflect the true creator God into the world. But if humans worship idols, the god-reflecting vocation is not canceled. It is distorted, so that we reflect into the world some aspect of, or some force within, the created order. The classic ones are money, sex, and power. We become like what we worship. Instead of shrinking, we are shaped by it: into monsters, if we are worshipping idols, or into truly human beings, if we are worshipping the true creator God. We grow into the likeness of who or what we worship, and we display that likeness to the world.

The first meal mentioned in the Bible is the moment when Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit. The direct result is new and unwelcome knowledge: ‘the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked’ (dienoichthesan hoi ophthalmoi ton duo kai egnosan hoti gymnoi esan, Genesis 3:7). Now this other couple, Cleopas and his companion (most likely his wife, one of the many Marys in the gospel story), are at table, and are confronted with new and deeply welcome knowledge: ‘their eyes were opened, and they recognized him’ (auton de dienoichthesan hoi ophthalmoi, kai epegnosan auton, 24:31). This, Luke is saying, is the ultimate redemption; this is the meal which signifies that the long exile of the human race, not just of Israel, is over at last. This is the start of the new creation. This is why ‘repentance and forgiveness of sins are to be announced to all nations’ (24:47). If Earle Ellis is right to see the Emmaus scene as the eighth meal in the gospel, there may be a numerical scheme at work to reinforce the same point (which, as we shall see, is highlighted especially by John). This is the first day of the new week.

Francis Schaffer in 1982 answering the question of what has gone wrong with evangelicals that allowed the Christian consensus to be lost in our nation:

"I think a false view of spirituality, a Platonic view of spirituality which follows Plato, but certainly isn't biblical. So true spirituality means the Lordship of Christ in the totality of life and not just a small part of it."

Robertson: "The liberal press, particularly, would try to keep conservative Christians or evangelicals out of political life, and there's this great pressure to make fun of you when you get in politics, and they don't think it should be. And there are many Christians who say yes to the same thing. Now, what do you say to them?"

Schaeffer: "Well, they're wrong."

Robertson: "Christians should do what? Run for office, vote, register, get involved? What ought they to do?"

Schaeffer: "Well, we ought to realize that in the viewpoint of the Scripture, life is not divided up into watertight compartments, that all of life should be lived for the Lordship of Christ. Now, what exact portion each one of us should have is according to the Lord's leading for us...but the rule to lay down is that Christians have a responsibility for the society in which they live.

We're to be the salt. We're to be the light...By our silence, by refusing to be what God tells us to be, the light of this culture, the salt of the culture, we are the ones responsible before God for the mess we're in."

The sword of Islamism wielded through the Ayatollah's regime has been against the throats of Iranian Christians & much of its muslim population for nearly 50 years. It has, indisputably, sponsored global terror, especially in the West, for a generation. It has slaughtered tens of thousands of its own people in the last few weeks. It has refused to halt its nuclear weapons program and ballistic missile development in order to be able to strike at the West, including the USA which it regards as 'the great Satan.' It's interesting to watch some of the new woke right in the US oppose their own president and military because their hatred of Israel and Jews is so great. They are apologists for terror and prefer the victory of militant Islamism to the survival of Israel and the safety of their own people. They are a total disgrace. We expect it from the Democrats and the radical Marxist left - it is shameful to see them join their ranks in opposing their own nation.

Jesus didn't come to abolish the Law (Mat 5:17).

I also find it interesting that most of the people who argue that the tithe is no longer required, & that we should simply "give generously in light of the gospel," always seem to end up giving less than 10%.

Tithing (especially when things are tight) is one of the clearest demonstrations of faith we can perform.

Unfortunately, one of the last areas of our lives that we surrender to the Lordship of Christ tends to be our finances.

Put your money where your mouth is.

Trust God.
Give him 10% or more.
Enjoy the blessing of walking in obedience.
