Advanced Technology Chip Fab (ATFC) update from this week’s flight.

A large section of the ground slab is being poured today over the yellow moisture barrier. Rebar is in place for more pours, the new tall crane is assembled and working the slab, and the last reinforced footings on the south end are still going in.

This is the joint @Tesla / @SpaceX ATCF on the east side of Giga Texas and it is a ~490,000 sq ft research fab. Heavily vibration-isolated foundation (GeoPiers, pedestal piers, massive footings) because chip lithography can’t tolerate movement.

It’s the prototype: logic, memory, packaging, and test under one roof so they can make a chip, test it, revise the mask, and repeat without shipping wafers.

This is also the precursor to the much larger Terafab in Grimes County. Chips here are meant for Optimus, Cybercab, future Tesla vehicles, and SpaceX Starmind / orbital compute.

What a rush! I was lucky enough to be present at the first Cybercab reveal at We, Robot on October 10, 2024, to being one of the very first to take @robotaxi rides in Austin a year later, to being the first paying customer for a “unsupervised” Robotaxi ride and now getting the chance to be one of the first to ride in one at today’s Cybercab Launch Event … what a wonderful and unexpected ride!

It’s a privilege to have been a small part of this amazing journey and to be part of this milestone moment today and share it with everyone around the world who are as excited about this as I am!

Congratulations to the entire @Tesla team for persevering all these years and pushing through every challenge and those who doubted you to make it happen. I, along with many people around the world, salute your efforts and thank you for doing so!

As serious as it sounds when we say that Cybercab is likely to ruin Uber and Waymo (never mind Lyft, and a raft of other autonomous wannabes), the truth is that isn't the target of the Cybercab product.
No.
The target is wayyyyy bigger. The target is the entire personal transport market.
At a cost of 40c per mile, Cybercab threatens that entire category. Which means that the demand is going to be bonkers. And some temporary friction from all the localities trying to halt it is going to die the same death that the restrictions on Uber evenutally died.
No, Tesla are NOT going to charge $4 per mile. No they are not going to put steering wheels in Cybercabs. They are going to relentlessly re-arrange the world of personal transport. 1 Cybercab, or 100, or 1000, 10000, 100000, 1000000 or many. many millions, at a time -- over time.
