The European Parliament voted on a proposal to reject the temporary extension of the ePrivacy Directive derogation (Chat Control 1.0 interim rules).
- For rejection: 314 votes (52%)
- Against rejection (i.e., supporting the extension): 276 votes (45%)
- Abstentions: 17 (3%)
- Total MEPs who voted: 607 (112 absent).

An absolute majority of 361 votes was required to pass the rejection. Since it fell short (314 < 361), the proposal to reject failed, allowing the temporary extension of voluntary message-scanning rules for CSAM detection to proceed (until ~2027/2028, with limits; end-to-end encryption not directly affected in this interim step).
