@tylerhnorris When @JigarShahDC spoke to my company he mentioned how DOE expertise/research could be used by all sorts of industry players to move convos faster. Not really LPO role, but do PUCs (NARUC?) tap DOE/ should @ENERGY convene them more often?
Amidst the reporting in the last several days on IRA coming together, this stuck out to me. The WV coalitions that got vote no 50, and how electeds listen to local biz leaders. https://t.co/aHb59kFB3i
fun getting past headlines into smaller rules & planning items... grants to help states adopt stronger building codes, grants for transmission planning, standardizing corporate ghg reporting, pushing low-carbon materials in fed bldgs
@AngieBoysen Update: awkward integrating into small apt kitchen. The idea of keeping it on a plank of wood on top of gas burners (switched off) can't be good since it creates a magnetic field. So countertop it is, but that's away from the range hood... Alas.
embarrassed it took me this long: just ordered a 2-burner induction cooktop. NYC renter, just going to stop using the gas range. (Also "burner" is anachronistic)
@AngieBoysen Wooo! Duxtop 1800W 2-burner. Looked at a handful of reviews, took a satisficer approach. Doesn't look good on its own for stovetop sitting with some little feet, but we'll get something solid inbetween. Fun bonus - once in a while we'll extension cord and cook outside! PORTABLE!
The clean energy transition requires about 1.5 to 2 billion tonnes of minerals over the next 30 years. That's about as much as the coal&oil we extract every six weeks..! https://t.co/WZEZZTMWSO
I hear a version of this argument all the time. It gets things wrong on the aggregate level: the zero-carbon transition will *reduce* the overall amount of mining and drilling needed, compared with continuing with the fossil fuel dependent energy system we have.
We are not powerless. Here’s what I’m fighting for: Expanding our Senate majority so we can eliminate the filibuster & codify Roe. Expanding the Supreme Court to rebalance this institution. Defending abortion rights in states through ballot measures and downballot elections.
@DKThomp +1 for Industrial policy: the convening power of the state, agencies with expertise, public-private coordination, missions, public procurement with new / high standards driving private problem solving, etc. Not just a tax credit or a regulation.
@Shravanbhat Home Depot credit card, but rebranded? Looks like zero interest for a few months. Unless customers are skittish about that option and a credit enhancement is needed
On Monday, I saw Nancy Pelosi speak about climate policy here in Miami Beach. I came away convinced that Democratic leaders don’t even understand the once-in-a-decade moment that they’re botching: https://t.co/KgKSuphDdk
