#Gaia23cvq from @ESAGaia is a Northern microlensing event now at its peak at 18 mag in the Cassiopeia constellation! ZTF23aawgoqp in @ztfsurvey Submit your observations to #BHTOM.space!
Join us tomorrow for our Gaia Focused Product Release #GaiaFPR! Starting at 10:00 CEST we will focus on each of our 5 data products: gravitational lenses, asteroid orbits, diffuse interstellar bands, long period variables, bonus stars in omega Centauri from engineering images!
Whoa. The FCC has issued a fine on space debris for the first time to a company that didn't deorbit its satellite properly.
It's a fine of $150,000 and "an admission of liability from the company". Could have fairly big implications for future space junk incidents?
BREAKING NEWS
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2023 #NobelPrize in Physics to Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L’Huillier “for experimental methods that generate attosecond pulses of light for the study of electron dynamics in matter.”
14th Gaia Science Alerts and ORP Time Domain Workshop started. This year in Malta! Agenda with recordings: https://t.co/KLwDwGpj7k #14_GAIA_ORP_MALTA_2023#Gaia#ORP#astronomy
Newly-discovered #asteroid 2023 LS snuck up on us. Thought to be 2-6 meters wide, it passed almost as close to Earth as our geostationary satellites. It came from the direction of the Sun, so it was not discoverable until after its close approach on June 9.
Our @ztfsurvey systematic scanning of the universe has again resulted in a pretty rare discovery! The light from a distant supernova was so warped that it formed 4 distinct images which astronomers then resolved with @keckobservatory and @NASAHubble .

@AdrienCoffinet In microlensing the background source gets magnified uniformly in all filters. However, if the lens is bright and is of different type than the source, the brightness ratio changes during the event, hence the colour.
Observations with multiple telescopes in multiple filters of #Gaia23ats resulted in this beautiful coverage of the second caustic crossing and detection of colour change, atypical for microlensing! Processed by #BHTOM.space.
