Ismaheel Akinade, described as a Kildare man by the main stream media, was convicted of sexual assault of a 14 year old child.
It took a VERY long time to locate any article about ex Bohs Nigerian player Ismaheel Akinade because all traces of his crime have been more or less scrubbed from existence. He got no jail time. 2 years suspended for 3.
He also posted on social media (under a post whereby commenters were asked to mention a childhood game) "rape a white girl." That of course is not mentioned in this article and all traces of that have been deleted too.
The judge in the case said that the conviction itself (rather than jail time) was enough punishment for the Nigerian man, as he may not be able to secure employment in the future. However, Akinade, was kept on at Bohs despite his sexual conviction and is now a player for
signed a one-year contract with Malaysia Super League club Terengganu in February 2024.
In April 2017, Akinade was issued a deportation order. His application to have the deportation stopped was rejected in the High Court in May 2019. He returned to Nigeria voluntarily in June.
