Radiohead's debut album was "Pablo Honey" in 1993.

Its first single was "Creep", which went supernova and remains the band's top-selling single ever.

The band hated its success, though. They didn't think the song represented their best work. And didn't want to be pigeon-holed.

Between 1992 and 1995, the band played the song at nearly every live show.

Their next three albums -- "The Bends" (1995), "OK Computer" (1997), "Kid A" (2000) -- were all-timers but fans still kept clamouring for "Creep" when they performed live.

For decades, the British band rarely played it.

In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, frontman Thom Yorke said “We only [played ‘Creep’] once or twice this year. The first time I’m feeling the fakes we’ll stop. It can be cool sometimes, but other times I want to stop halfway through and be like, ‘Nah, this isn’t happening.'”

My favourite part of the story is the role of Beavis & Butthead. The MTV hit show had this glorious exchange while the cartoon duo watched the music video.

◻️Beavis (talking about the “Creep” chorus): “How come they don’t, like, play that cool part through the song.”

◻️Butt-Head: “If they didn’t have a part of the song that sucked, the other part wouldn’t be as cool.”

The skit helped blow the song up in the US.

Radiohead's ambivalence about the song is perfectly exmplified by the fact that they were fans of the Beavis & Butthead skit.

In sum: Radiohead (and Mike Judge) are geniuses
