Imprisoned activist Michael Amushelelo has initiated a hunger strike to protest his confinement.

Currently held in detention since Independence Day, Amushelelo, managing his social media through his wife, cited the limited options within prison as the motive for this extreme form of protest.

Describing it as an "inhumane process of self-torture," he stressed that it's his sole means to advocate for freedom.

Amushelelo, along with PDM lawmaker Inna Hengari and activist Dimbulukeni Nauyoma, was arrested during a planned protest against unemployment, with their detentions occurring just after deciding to call off the protest.

I have just left Chikurubi Maximum prison where I had gone to visit Zimbabwe’s political prisoner, former member of parliament and lawyer, Job Sikhala.

He has been in prison for 446 days without bail although Zimbabwe’s constitution entitles him to get bail.
He has no conviction which requires him to be in prison.

He stood up for an opposition female member who was murdered by ZANUPF thugs in his constituency surroundings.

The opposition and all of us should never forget why Job Sikhala is in prison.

His issue should not be raised in anecdotal solidarity messages, but a collective and coherent opposition narrative and not cheap propaganda meant to justify lack of narrative.

Job Sikhala is not in prison for committing a personal act, he is there for fighting for democracy and human rights of a slain opposition member.
